Hello one and all! First posting. I am having a problem with my 2002 coupe. When I turn my parking lights on (first position on switch) the head light doors open. Any ideas.
Hi Greg, I think this is a (somewhat) common problem - the gears that lift and lower the headlights are going out. You may want to replace them with something other than the stock plastic gears - someone offers brass ones that will last longer. Do a search on headlight gears, or wait for someone to post further details.
Gotta ask a dumb question here...why would bad gears in the head light door motor cause the door to open when the parking lights (first detent on the light tree) are turned on? If the gears were bad, wouldn't that effect the operation of the door only when turning the headlights on? I am confused (this happens often)......thanks

I think they didn't read the question carefully. But for my 2 cents worth, me thinks you may have a bad switch. I have not had this problem, but hopefully others will join in so I can learn too.
I replaced the gears in both headlights yesterday. I had the grinding and the headlights pop up at parking light position. After I replaced the gears both problems went away.
Hi Again, I can't explain why the gears going bad cause that symptom, but as you can see from the responses above, you're not the first to have this problem, and they weren't the first to report it being fixed by replacing the gears...

I think it may have to do with stripped/broken gears changing the total range of travel from up to down positions, etc. and the system thinks the light assembly is in a position it's actually not.
