Any HELPFUL HINTS when installing a Brey-Kraus Harness Bar?
Hope to install the BK Harness Bar in my Z tomorrow... Oh, and I'm also installing the frame-mounted lap belt mount kits as well. Any one have any advice/helpful hints to give to make the job a little easier? Is there anything I should know that the directions don't really explain? What about installation time?

i installed the BK bar in my car a few months ago. very easy, a second set of hands is helpful but not required. check your service manual for the correct torque values for the bolts you will have to undo and redo. make sure you have a hex drive for the new bolts that go into the B-pillar.

I've installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled the Harness Bar and the seat belt 6pt mounts now. (Installed twice). The instructions were very easy to follow and worked well. The one thing that they said you'd need, which I didn't, was a T-55 (or something similar) Torx bit that's for "Seatbelts only" - I didn't need it, the T-50 (I think I've got the #'s right) worked just fine.

I'm not sure how the lap belt mount works but i've always mounted the lap belt in the OEM position underneath the G.M. belt. This reguires removing both seats. The Brey-Krause bar is easy to install nad worth the money.Make sure those belts are mounted as per manufactures spec's we are all acutely aware of how important that has become.

I use my Z06 as my daily driver. For those that do the same and have a harness, do you only put it on at the track or wear it on other trips as well. If it does keep you safer in an accident then the OEM belts, isn't it worth the extra minute to hook up, or am I looking at this wrong?

Also remember the harness bar does not constitute a roll bar. In the event of a rollover and roof collapse, the harness bar may do no more than keep you upright when that in itself could become a problem. Just my .02. ;)

Muffler, have you seen pics or heard of how a hardtop/Z06 did in a rollover? In the shots of the Z06, frame only, it appears that the roof support behind the driver is part of the frame and looks like a roll bar. Does anyone have comments about this? I saw the pics of the flat mustang, but thats not a C5 hardtop/Z06. There was a video of someone on the forum who rolled their car last year and the roof looked like it held up.
Re: Any HELPFUL HINTS when installing a Brey-Kraus Harness Bar? (Hawk)
I have never heard of a built in rollbar in the Z06. As to whether the roof will hold up in a rollover of course depends on a lot of factors, but there was a post on the other Z06 forum a while back on the dangers of putting too much confidence in a harness bar for serious road racing. A roll bar was recommended.

Basically, I leave the shoulder straps in all the time, but with the BK 6 point lap and anti-sub mounts, those straps just clip in and out, so I take those out when I'm not at the track. I also leave the camera mount in all the time as well

Thanks for the replies, folks! (I went a couple days without seeing any replies to this post -- today there are 9! Thanks!)
I wish I had seen some of these posts befor embarking on the install. Two sets of hands ARE helpful! Also, I didn't know about the hex-bolt situation. I got the lap belt mounts in with no problems, and actually had some problems with the bar install (but it was getting dark, and I was getting frustrated, so I'm thinking the install problems were more problems with ME than anything else).
I'm going to a buddy's house this evening to complete the install. I can't wait!
