Default C5 Vs. Harley

Maybe not what you were thinking, but I really would like some imput! I own a nice 03 Electraglide, bought it new and have racked up 20,000 on it. Not bad considering the wife and I work full time and between us have 5 rugrats runningg around. Here's the issue, I'm in love with a 97 C5, but I can't justify having two 2 seater playtoys. I'm considering buying the C5 and putting my Harley up for sale. I think the ability to get more drive time is a big plus, being that weather and room for carry-ons is not an issue. I kept the C5 all day yesterday, went to Sams, bought $343 in grub, packed her full and smiled all the way home. I even had a guy in the parking lot stop and say, "nice ride" that made me feel great, since I get that alot with my bike. So I'm polling you guys, what you think? ever been here before? give me your thoughts!!!!

Default Same boat!

Have had 5 bikes over last 13 years interrupted by 7 cars! Last one custom fat boy big bore kit- 12.3 in the quarter. I traded/sold it to get a porsche and sold the porsche to get my ZO6

No comparison for all the reasons you mention. more room, warm, almost as fast and BIG thing where I am much safer- less chance some idiot will put me in a wheel chair or take me from my 4 kids.

Get the car.

i have a 06 sportster 1200 and a Z06. i myself would never give one up for the other because they are both just so great in their own way. is your bike paid off? if so, i'd just get the C5 and enjoy them both.

i will say though that i don't have any kids just me and my fiance so i can't really relate to what your exact situation is like. i can, however, tell you without a doubt that you will never walk out to your driveway, look at the vette and say "man this thing sucks, i never should have bought it". you will love every minute of it.

i don't know if any of this helps but i thought i'd give my .02. harleys are special and carry a very unique feeling when owning and riding one. i think the same goes with corvettes.

whatever you decide to do just keep having fun and putting on the miles.

Beatiful bike! Four wheels are always going to be safer especially when you take your kids for a ride! You'll be able to get that open air feeling like on the bike when you remove the targa top! (Just not as much as an open feeling as on the bike!)

Let us know your decision! IMO the Vette, because I own one and am extremely happy!

Thanks,Matt

Keep'em both, especially if one or both are paid for. I sold my 430 CLK and Hayabusa to get my '03 Z06, that lasted one summer before i went out and got a '06 Hayabusa... if money isn't a issue keep'em both.

Just started customizing the bike...

I know exactly what you're going through. Been riding HD's for about 15 years. Many trips to Sturgis and road trips with the guys, which will always be in my memories. That's the part I miss most about the bikes vs the Vette. But the long and short of it is, I'm at the point in my life where I don't want to add anymore risks, so I think my riding days are over and the Vette is a smile in it's own way. Plus there are alot more things you can do to personalize your Vette just like the bikes.

When I want a little extra charge, I throw the slicks on her and head to the drags for the afternoon, then pull the top off for the trip home through the country.

Welcome to the forum!

Yeah, that's a tough call. I've tried to quit riding a few different times over the years, always wind up getting another bike. However, if you can only have one, get a Corvette convertible and have a very nice compromise between the two. I'd sure hate to see you sell that Harley though and replace it again in another year. This time I didn't last a year without one.

They are 2 different experiences. If you can afford it keep both. If you sell the bike you will likely be after one again in the near future. Life is short you can never have too many toys. Do whatever makes you happy.

Well you guys are great, it reminds me of the earlier years in the HD forums, left those a while back, because of all the bickering. Guess it happens everywhere. I can keep both, I could swing it on the money end, but with only a house payment and a harley payment, no credit cards or other vehicle payments, I just can't justify two toys for me, I want to keep a comfortable lifestyle, and not feel guilty when I want to buy goodies for my bike or the Vet. Safety is an issue, been hit before, did'nt care or that one bit, plus I find myself speed seeking and pushing my abilities too far on the bike. The vet has wonderful power and I am very comfortable putting it through the paces. I'll have to decide by tomorrow, the Vet that I'm looking at wont last, its got a great powertrain, already had it looked over, the exterior is almost flawless, the interior (seats and carpet) need some love, but it is priced right! I'll check in again later and let you guys know what happens!

Believe me I understand your dilemma. I have a 03’ Electra Glide Ultra loaded up with extras.
I bought new knowing from past experience I would only put 1000 miles a year on it.
Well it has around 2600 miles on it now, but I haven’t ridden it since I bought my ZO6 last September!
I am thinking about selling it but I know in a year or two I’ll be out Harley shopping if I do.
The Harley is paid for and I think the biggest part of the depreciation has already past, so what’s a guy to do?
Good Luck,

Your only mistake was not keeping the Vette

Personally I'd go for the C5, but it sounds like you really enjoy the bike. If any way possible, keep the bike and get the car. Best of both worlds.

Not quite in your dilemma but...

Friends that own bikes are always telling me to get one. I listen to their tales of fun and frivolity. Then the truth come outs. Stuck in traffic in the summer with the engine heat roasting the family jewels, idiots not seeing you, Harley tax (HD stands for Hundred Dollars) as well as Corvette tax. I have friends that do NOT attend large scooter gatherings because of the atmosphere. Never heard that about vette gatherings. Being as I am home on a limited scheule and have only so much "play" time, I choose the vette. I love to track the car (HPDE's) I love having Factory Air at my disposal. Just suits my lifestyle better.

You have a personal decision to make. If it were me...Scooter is in the want ads.

Since it appears to be one or the other, I'd say go with the Vette. You won't regret it.

I'd go with the C5 for sure - (you are in the C5 forum right?).. but also you might consider a *** Blvd Cruiser if that's your style. No HD tax and pretty good bang for the buck if you go with a used bike. That way you'd have the best of both worlds. $.02 deposited.
