Forgive me if this is a stupid question, as I couldn't find the answer via searching and even checked my manual. I have a non-HUD car and simply wondered if there was a digital speedometer you could view, while driving, in your DIC? If not, I'm not sure why that feature would not be offered.
Does it seem strange to anyone else that you can't display constant speed? It obviously would have been a piece of cake to set up...perhaps GM thought it would cause a distraction to the driver to have the speed displayed so low. But for crying out loud, I can sit there and look at my live MPG - but not speed? Wild stuff.
The screwball car magazine writers were so hard on digital speedometers it is a wonder they even offered it on the HUD. By the way if there is an error it is the analog speedometer. To get the analog speedo to work they have to convert the digital data that goes directly to the HUD to an analog voltage which then drives a meter that is less than accurate.

I think you answered your question, yes they put the HUD up where you can see it easily, and if you look up a little bit from your MPG you will see the speedometer which also gives you continuous speed readings. Guess they figured you could only do it so many ways and couldn't please everyone....
