Interior Squeak - finally found it
Since I've had my 01 for 6 months now I'm starting to notice more squeaks and rattles. This is my only "complaint" with the car, less interior plastic please. Although it's nothing like my 93 Z28, it was a squeak/rattle machine.
I can't figure out if it's me getting used to the car, or if the the Hotchkis sways and sub/box/amp I put in the back have contributed. Probably a bit of both.
Anyway, I've been having this squeak in the interior that's been driving me nuts the past few weeks. I couldn't figure out if it was the clutch, the steering wheel, or something else. Everytime I'd move, either to shift or steer, the squeak would come up.
I finally figured it out. It's the lower seat belt assembly. Just a slight body movement will move the seat belt and it squeaks. Anyone know how to get to the seatbelt and sprinkle some WD-40 in there?
I haven't opened up the seat belt assembly but use something besides wd40, as it evaporates. Try maybe a spray lithium grease. Be sure not to get whatever you use on the belt material as it'll be all over your clothes shortly.

It's easy to access.
Move the seat forward and remove the cover for the seat belt using your hands. It has three connection places (clips).
My wife's Tahoe has this same seat belt retractor squeak. It only does it once in a while so I've never tried to lubricate it. I assume you could take apart the cover and spray the retractor mechanism with something slippery. Good luck. I also hate squeaks and rattles.
The squeak I had was from some of the interior plastic down around the driver's side right knee rubbing together. To eliminate it I took some vinyl tubing, split it and put it between the plastic. It's gone (for now anyway). $.02
