A freind of mine who owns a high end car a/v shop wanted to put a sub in my C5. I said why not... He custom made the box to fit the center trunk storage box and it looks factory with a woofer in it. It Sounds Great and looks great.
If anyone is interested in getting this done he is charging $200 for the box, rather than the $500 charged by other speaker comanies.
Is your "friend" building these out of fiberglass? Because those are those ones that run $500. If it's simple MDF construction, you can buy those through Subthump for $110.

I cant say anything about quality from Subthump or your friend, but just by looks that price is a little steep. I have been looking at getting one as well and have found one site listing them at 99.00 and about 3 sites at 110-120
But on another note, what size sub did you get put in? Im thinking about one 12 since I already have the sub and amp but I dont know how much rattling it would have.
Local high end shop wanted $400 to build an MDF box. Regular stereo shops do charge that much for basic wood stuff like that!
But in any case, if you want to sell anything through the forum, or if your buddy does, he needs to have a forum vendor account. Without that, you can face banishment.
I built this one with my son, and he has turned down an offer at $600 for it (fits for 2 - 10's). First attempt at building a Fiberglass top/front - leather covered sides, back, bottom What a huge amount of work laying up 6 layers, sanding, 2 basecoat, 3 clearcoat layers.

I have a similar setup in my coupe, but the box fits under the center cover. I know the sound may not be as good but I like the stock look and I can always take the lid off. If your friend does good work and you trust him, the price is secondary. I paid less for mine and am happy with it.
