Default Lighting question

How do I splice an auxillary light into the existing wiring? Do I have to run the wire all the way to the fuse box or can I just tap into something like the taillights?

Thanks for the help. I don't want to get electrocuted or blow my car up if I can help it

I think you are going to need to be a little bit more specific on what you are trying to do, and the light specifications.

It's a 12V auxillary light for the rear cargo area on a coupe.

Well, they all should be 12v, that is the voltage your car runs on, it is the current draw that is more important. If you don't know the amps do you know the wattage of the light bulb? You may just be able to tap into an existing power source as long as the draw is not two high, otherwise you will blow a fuse. If the draw is too high then it is best to run a separate circuit.

I don't have my manual in front of me here in work. Hopefully someone can chime in and let you know where you can tap in for power and what kind of load you can put on it. The coupe already has some lighting in the cargo area as well, so maybe you can tap off of that circuit.

Unless you are wanting to juice a spotlight, I would just tap into the existing cargo lights. I don't like being electrocuted either, so disconnect the battery before splicing. Maybe someone can chime in and tell you which wire is carrying the 12V.

If you tap into the taillights, your cargo light will come on when you turn your parking lights on.

Quick question for ya Blowtorch. I just moved back to Alabama from NC. Why did my insurance double? Never had any wrecks or tickets.

I can't really answer that. It's possible Alabama rates are higher due to specific conditions there. Urban or rural?

Have you shopped around with several companies?

I spent one day of my Xmas vacation shopping online (I know boring huh?) for car insurance and got quotes from 6 companies that ranged from 1100.00 up to 1800.00 for the same exact coverage
