Valentine One. I never leave home without it! It's not just a radar detector, it's a radar locator.

Escort 8500 for the past 5 years has been excellent. It has saved me many times, but it is time to upgrade.

V1 or the Passport 8500 X50 are really the only two ones you should entertain getting. I decided to save a couple hundred bucks and get the 8500 and love it, No tickets since ipurchased mine 3 years back.
Do a search, there are
tons of thread on this topic. It comes up weekly, and there is alot of good info archeived here.

I thought you could send in your 8500 and get it "updated" w/ the x50 technology for a small fee?
I may be wrong though.
Edit: I was wrong. You can buy the new X50 and send it your old 8500 (core/exchange) and get a $50 rebate on the new X50.

If they are illegal like they are here. then get the Bell STi Driver. Its the ONLY one on the market that is undetectable by the radar detector detectors... its a must have.. in many reviews it holds its own or even beats accuracy and distance against the Valentine or Escort. I did the same, although I think the difference was only about $130 IIRC.

If I were going to buy one, it would be the Valentine One. Seems like it gets the best reviews here on the forum.

just dove a 800 mile round trip to ohio for new years...my 8500 X50 picked up everything a way out.
I got the X50 due to the over the hill performance which is very important to me as it's very hilly here in the northeast.
Either way, just because you have a detector doesn't mean you can drive like a maniac and you're safe...just like anything else, it's just a tool

Amen. V1 is also invisible to the detector detectors.
