Default Carfax Class Action Suit?

I just got this email about a class action suit filed against CarFax.

Abbreviated details below the dashed lines.

I am only posting this in the C5 section for now to see what sort of response I get.

PM me if you want the rest of the email. It is rather long and I did not want to bog this post down by making it huge.

Moderators, if this is not an appropriate post to make, please lock or delete but since so many Vette owners use CarFax I thought they might be interested.

If this IS appropriate, then will one of you contact me so I can cross post it at the other Vette forums? (C-1; C-2; C-3; C-4; C-6)

I do not think this is a joke as I've seen other class action suit notices and this one tracks pretty well with them.

------------------------------

IF YOU HAVE PURCHASED A CARFAX VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT FROM CARFAX PLEASE NOTE THAT A SETTLEMENT OF VARIOUS LEGAL CLAIMS RELATING TO SUCH PURCHASES HAS BEEN PROPOSED IN THIS CLASS ACTION. THE SETTLEMENT MAY AFFECT YOUR RIGHTS.

WHAT IS THIS CASE ABOUT?

Plaintiff claims that Carfax violated the consumer protection laws of all fifty states by not properly disclosing terms and conditions for, and limitations of, Carfax Vehicle History Reports. Carfax denies all of Plaintiff's claims of wrongdoing.

HOW DO I KNOW IF I'M A MEMBER OF THE SETTLEMENT CLASS?

If you purchased a Carfax Vehicle History Report directly from Carfax at any time before October 27, 2006, you're a Class Member for purposes of this settlement.

WHAT DO I GET IF I REMAIN IN THE SETTLEMENT?

Class Members who remain in the settlement can claim a Voucher good for $20.00 off a vehicle inspection by a designated third party within six months of final approval of the settlement, a Voucher good for two free Carfax Vehicle History Reports from Carfax within one year of final approval of the settlement, a Voucher for one free Carfax Vehicle History Report from Carfax within two years of final approval of the settlement, or a Voucher for 50% off an unlimited number of Carfax Vehicle History Reports (for personal, not commercial use) over 30 consecutive days within three years of final approval of the settlement. The Court will also order Carfax to make certain changes in its disclosures and contracting process with customers.

Don't get me wrong. I'll also give it the round file treatment as I am not a fan of CA lawsuits.......plus I have no intention of selling either of my vehicles in the next 5 years. But, in the interests of performing a public service for those MAY be buying............................

I received one today as well, however I received a product and agreed with the price. I have no reason to join in on the CA.
I simply don't get it. It's funny I got a check from a CA this past week on one from a Dell suite. I don't even know why I got a big whooping check for $11.01.

I did pass on one a few years back that would have been about $10k. I didn't think that the suite was called for so I decided not to take my share. They didn't give it back, but divided it up between all the others, that set me off, but it was too late.

I wonder what stuff would cost if they didn't have the lawyers fee's added? No knock on the lawyers, they do serve us at times.
OK, it's Friday and I'm on my second glass of Cab.

I too received the class action lawsuit email. It was so looooong that I haven't read the entire thing. I seem to recall a link to enter personal information which made me suspicious.

Ha! I was involved in one once. Did all the paperwork correctly, etc. Then waited, and waited, and waited. Sent in change of address whenever it happened........I waited 13 YEARS!!!!!!

Finally, a check for $61 came in the mail.

Believe me, they're nothing to get excited about, and usually not worth the time and effort spent trying to prove you qualify to be in the class.

I was in another one involving American Airlines.

Again, the class won. I won a bunch of flight vouchers.

If I remember correctly, I got 5 or 10 $25 off vouchers but I couldn't combine them. Had to use them for different reservations, and they had a two year expiration on them. I ended up never using them because I didn't travel that often, and when I did I'd always forget I had those damn coupons.

Good luck! It might be a five year wait before you'll see your $20.
