Hi, my name is Bill and I have my first rock chip…in my carbon fiber hood at that…
Please make me feel better by showing me your rock chip.
No clue how or when it happened. Drove the car out to lunch yesterday, didn’t hear or see anything hit the car. Got ready to leave work and spotted what I thought was bird crap…nope, rock chip.
Boy, I feel your pain. I only wish I had one chip. I have them all over however there is a very good way to take care of them. Find someone that can air brush and have them touch it up. I take my car in and have them go over the whole thing each spring. Takes a day and about $200. Only if you know where they were and get up within 2-3feet of the spot would you barely be able to tell.
I have 'em, but can't bring myself to go point a camera and take close-up pics..
I feel your pain, I have a nice little hole in the sticker on the driver's side roof stripe.. 5" scratch on the deck lid.. numerous little chips by the previously-mentioned rear duct intakes..

Sucks.
Sorry to see you got knicked........... I had 3M paint protection (clear bra) installed on my Z16 & Z06, hood (18 inches), roof (12 inch) including rocker panels. It works and have not experienced any chip from HPDE/highway driving.
160+ MHP runs = Rock chips - you can't have your cake and eat it too
Next you will start to notice micro stars in your thin Z06 windshield when driving into the sun.
It really aggervating is it?
True, but living in the MidWest. We have two seasons, Winter and Construction. With every major interstate within the Chicago Metro area under 24/7 reconstruction for the past three years. It is impossible to avoid gravel trucks.............

Had my Z06 1 day driveing it on the freeway,I hear the basic rock on winshield noise. I got a sick feeling, pulled off the freway and saw what looked like bird poop. Oh no a chip. Not just 1 but 3 rock skiped off winshield. This is my 3rd corvette, seems all 3 had stuff happen within the first few days of ownership.
Doesn't that just stink, and you know when you used to have a non-Corvette vehicle it seems as if it never got stone chips or rocks in the windshield. (or maybe I just didn't notice or care as much )
The first one is always the hardest one...it's bound to happen. Don't sweat it, would you have rathered bought the Z and had it trailered to your garage where all you can do is go and stare at it? I don't think so...if they build it, you will drive it...
Thanks guys...I'm feeling better but dang that's the first thing I see every time I look at the car now - it seems so big, maybe I should name it! My cars is a driver so I knew this day was coming. I have plenty of the aforementioned "rash" by the rear brake ducts but this is the first blemish that is up front for all to see. Thankfully I can't see it from the driver's seat so I guess I just need to drive her more! A guy in our club has a paint shop where he does part-time touch-up/custom work (no collision work). I'll be seeing him soon to see what my options are.
I can do better than that! It was almost this time last year I was caught in a blizzard!!! The sand/salt truck BATHED my car with garbage. A few chips here and there. Even if you drive it on nice roads, chips will come.
Not to worry, it looks like this now and is resting
it will happen unless you lock it away in a vault......lol, I have 3M StonGard on mine, and as fate will have it, caught a stone a couple of inches above the protective film
Try taking it the car to a custom paint shop and have them air brush the chip. I had one and the color is black. It did cost me 200.00 but you can't see the mark at all....
Don't have any photos, but after 148,xxx miles, I've got a few.
Worst is the front fender right behind the wheels, followed closely by the rocker panels and low on the door panels.
Rears aren't too bad. One thing I do to try to minimize stone damage is to use Wal Mart shelf paper on the wheel wells during my autocross events. You can see it in my sig if you look closely.
I may give her a new paint job in a few years if I get a more dedicated track car.
Sorry for your pain, but, like death and taxes, it happens to all of us!
