First time posting....so give me a break if this doesn't come through OK!!
Running a 2001 coupe w/6spd. First C5, bought car about a year ago and always thought, for a car of this stature, it had an excessive amount of road noise. Replaced runflat tires a few months ago with Michelin Pilot Sport AS. This helped the noise level a bunch but still have more road noise than seems necessary.
Has anyone tried adding additional sound insulation or has any thouights about this??? Or is there any suppliers offering a kit for same????
Have had couple of C4s in past and I didn't think they had as high a noise level.
There's been numerous discussions on this subject. And yes, there are several vendors that have the insulation kits. I haven't done it myself, but from what I understand, it's definately worth the money. It also keeps that high heat around the console way down. Do some searches on insulation and/or look through the Tech Tips and you should find a wealth of information.
Forum member CrazyCowboy sells pre-cut insulation kits. Others, myself included, made our own from FrostKing (or similar materials) to achieve the same results. It's probably not as good at insulating sound as dynamat but it's cheaper, and cuts down on heat transmission from the exhaust. If it's still too noisy, it also helps to insulate inside the wheelwells and the doors.
I feel that the noise reduction was noticable, and it definitely cut down on the heat transmitted to the console.
Tks for the welcome. Have spent years lurking in the background and reading many of questions comments on this forum.
After my original post, I started looking through some of the venders listed on this forum and came across a product called Dynamat that appears to make such a product and indeed makes akit for corvettes.
Appears to have excellant references and, needless to say , not cheap.
Same old story..."if your gonna dance, ya gotta pay the fiddler".
If anyone has some other info, would love to hear it.

Dynamat is a good solution of you are only going to use a little or don't care about the weight addition. I used some of it to deaden my shifter and insulate around the center console - but that is as much as I am willing to add...
Dynamat - .68 lb/ft
DynaPad - 1.09 lb/ft
Total square footage of C5 kit:
Dynamat - 84 sq ft
DynaPad - 156 sq ft
Total weight for C5 kit - 227lbs
No way in hell am I going to add another ~230 lbs to my car just to reduce a little road noise, but it's your car do what ya want...

Helps with the heat and the noise.

Frost king may be the same stuff, but the stuff IMO that works the best is called Peel n Seal, almost identical to dynamat, but much cheaper, $13/roll at Lowes. Then you can use some stuff there called "Reflectix" similar stuff to the things you put in car windows to keep the heat and sun out, for the tunnel. if you do a google search for "Peel n Seal" you'll find alot of car audio people use it in multiple layers instead of dishing out the cash for dynamat, fatmat, ect...
