Default honest opinions please.....

maybe I have beat this dead horse enough, I believe I have researched to much but, someone with real world experiances please tell me the differences or pros and cons of a base Z51 C6 and 03 to 04 Z06. Some people say this is a no brainer, not good statement for me because I cant decide which to get......Take into consideration I have drove an 03 Z but not a C6....also talking about seat of your pants performance and power.

Thanks
Kevin

Interesting comparison and I've seen a magazine article on this topic.

Looks like the 'Z' on the left is a tad faster (quicker ?)

If you're bigger on performance go with the 'Z'......
If you're bigger on creature comforts then C6

You might also try the C6 section of the forum.

I have an '04 Z06 and love it; I would not trade it for a C6. With that said however, if I did not currentlt have the Z06 I would go for the C6, 6speed with the Z51 option.
I believe the performance will be very close to the Z06 but you will have a few more "creature comforts" and a newer vehicle. That's just my 2 cents.

A great driver in a C6 will beat an average driver in a Z06. Both cars in the same hands, and the Z06 will edge it out. My Dad just bought an '03 Z06 and he keeps telling me how he would smoke a 6 speed C6. Well, he sucks at driving stick and has no idea how to launch the car. So I always tell him he'd lose. But he can't understand that for some reason. His car is lighter and has 5 more horsepower.

Anyway, back on the topic. I really like the C6. So much so that I almost bought a black vert instead of my Z16. But, with a Z06 you have something that represents something more than just your everyday Corvette. I'm not saying the Z06 is rare. God knows they made enough of them. I'm just saying there's something about not having the base model of anything. And let's face it, the C6 is a base car. It's one hell of a base car, but it is in fact just a base for something better...the Z06.

Do yourself a favor and go drive both back to back. I think you'll feel that the Z06 has a little more. Not so much that you'll say, "Oh my God, this Z06 is so fast and the C6 is a dog". But you should be able to feel a slight SOTP difference. The interior of the Z06 is better than the C5 Z06 though.

C6 tranny

Type 6-Speed Manual
Final Drive 3.42:1
1st Gear Ratio 2.97:1
2nd Gear Ratio 2.07:1
3rd Gear Ratio 1.43:1
4th Gear Ratio 1.00:1
5th Gear Ratio 0.71:1
6th Gear Ratio 0.57:1

Z06 (C5) tranny

LS6/M12
1st Gear 2.97:1
2nd Gear 2.07:1
3rd Gear 1.43:1
4th Gear 1.00:1
5th Gear 0.84:1
6th Gear 0.56:1

The main difference in transmission is 5th gear if you look at the #'s.
The lower 5th gear on the Z would help at higher speeds.

Combine that with a weight of 3115 vs 3240 and the Z is faster.

Keep in mind that I'm a musclecar nut and very biased......the Z06 badging is not just legendary - it's essential !

Forgot to mention that the Z06 should be slightly more nimble in autocross cornering than a C6.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Z06 sports an FE4 front sway bar which is larger than the FE3 (Z51) sway bar on the C6 with the Z51 option.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you just listed the C6 Z51 tranny ratios. I believe the tranny ratios in the regualr C6 are closer to what the regularf C5 has.

If you're after performance - the kind the Z06 is made for, a road course - there's no contest.

thanks for the info.... I think I am leaning towards performance and maybe having something of value way down the road, if I can resist the C6 Z, if and when they become more affordable in 10 or 15 years....
