Default Window motors .

How hard is it to replace the window motor/cable in the corvettes ?

My drivers window is stuck in the down position now .

It started acting up a month ago and it sounded like the cable was trashing out .

I have to drive the car every day so after a month of helping it up and down it feels like the cable is broke .

Anyone got a line on the replacement parts and is it a bitch to fix ?

I can have it fixed for 350 bucks by Corvette Masters if need be but ide rather do it myself .

I had one with a bad motor and was able to get a motor at RockAuto.com for about $90 rebuilt. It took about one hour to change it out with a shop manual for help. No problems with the rebuilt window motor.

For a complete set up with cables seem to run about $275 on ebay. Several vendors sell A/C Delco replacement parts. Used should be under $100.

Sorry if this is off topic, but I replaced a window motor in a 1996 Camaro, and it was a PIA (even though I saved a lot of money). I don't think I would try it in a Vette because I would be afraid of messing something up. Just my .03....

Not hard to replace. Took me about 2.5 hours with a good half hour or more test drive to make sure I had the window aligned so it wouldn't leak air while driving.

It is really a simple job, Take of door panel (go to vettessentials) for direction on panel removal-great instructions, do a search for window problems and there is a great post for removal of speaker and window regulator, its pretty straight forward, be sure to mark you glass on clamps and mark bottom door bolt position(you will see what I mean when you remove the speaker) if you go with motor replacement you will still need to remove regulator, complete regulator is more expensive but by far easier. Maybe you'll get lucky, the one I bought was made in Germany and replaced the one made in Mexico, ah yes, a true international car.

I tried replacing the motor itself with one from AutoZone and it turned into a nightmare job.
I ended up getting a GM complete assembly for 250 cash brand new from my local Corvette Shop in Tampa. That took about 20 minutes to install since I already had the door panel open.

The problem with the motor only repair is getting the cables inside the new motor correctly. I tried to do it with the whole assembly still in the car and I couldn't tell what I was doing. If you do the motor only please remove the whole assembly, lay it out nice and take it apart slowly taking pics along the way. It shouldn't be a problem to do it like that.
