Default Need some C5 help

Been looking at C5's & C6's for the wife as a daily driver, my wife likes the C5 over the C6. Her question is how the C5 handles in wet conditions or a cold rain. If they slip and slide more than let say normal vehicle.

Thanks for any info...........

I think the Vette does OK with its active handling (aka traction control) in rainy conditions, but I would definitely give the edge to a "normal" car (i.e. with front-wheel drive) in conditions such as snow or freezing rain.

I have had no problems in the rain. Of course you may want to be a little more careful but if your careful and dont try to speed or take corners are 60 mph then you will be fine. Mine is a daily driver and it rains quite a bit here in the winter time. Hope this helps !

Good tires and suspension is the key. C5s handle great.

One of the key factors is always going to be speed....and it always seems you drive faster in one of these (C5/C6) ...as opposed to a "normal" vehicle!!!

I know your wife is probably a very safe , conscientious driver, but after she becomes used to the C5/C6 and what it'll do, she will naturally drive faster. I find that the most dangerous time for me is when I'm NOT driving my C5, and I forget that the car I'm driving is not a C5. I tend to forget and drive all cars like my C5....therein lies the danger.

All kidding aside.....heaven forbid the "worst case scenario" (an accident) should occur, but the C5/C6's are very structurally sound and she'd be very safe inside that car!

Good luck....

From what I've read in previous posts get an all season tire, basically sacrifice preformance for all weather handling Used to see a guy driving a C5 every morning down the highway in rain and snow.

I drive my 2000 C5 daily and I live in Portland Oregon. So needless to say its wet almost daily.

With ther traction control "on" theres never a problem .

Even the Run flats seem to hang on pretty well.

I wouldnt take the TC off and play around as thats kinda " DUMB"

I also researched the foums before I purchased my car as I didnt want a car that leaked. And I am not going to buy a car that I am afraid to use.

Mine dosent and most others told me thier cars were also great in the wet.

My advice BUY a C5 . Someone else has already taken the $$$ hit. So if you dont care for the car ( Why that woul happen I dont know) and decide to sell later on youre not the one loosing all the $$$.

Personally I like the styling better than the C6s.

I've never had a problem driving my C5 in the rain. As with any car, I adjust my speed to compensate for the road conditions. However, with so much torque and power, you do need to be a little more gentle with the C5 in wet conditions.

Mine does fine in wet weather. I have BFG KDWTA tires which are a good wet/dry tire.

I purchase my car in Florida and drove it back to NY where i live.
On that trip, I encountered what has been the worst rain that I have ever driven in to date. The car much to my surprise, being that it was my first day with it, handled fine. I would have every confidence in driving it in the rain. As always, respect the conditions of the road as well.
Snow?? Cant speak to that though ... never had the Vette out in the snow.

Leave traction control on and the car will handle better than most other cars. Its designed to keep you on the road and in the grove.
