Default Installing a C6Z shifter?

I just got the C6Z shifter today for the 04. I plan on putting it in this weekend. Is it pretty self explanitory installing? Or did anyone run into any problems that I need to watch for?

It's rather easy... but you'll want to follow the how-to by forum member Patches. I installed my fathers in under 30 min, but I've done it a bunch.

Hi chevy rules -

Here is the link to the install from Patches -

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1022661

After doing a few of these, I can do one in ~30 minutes.

best regards -

Just had mine installed and love it. I also had the tranny fluid changed with Royal Purple based on what I read on the forum that it gives you slightly smoother shifts. You may also want to get a C6 boot from Vette Essentials, but I used the stock boot with an O-ring and it worked just fine. Patches' thread I believe mentions how to use the stock boot. Good luck!

thanks everyone! thats exactly what I needed. There is only one thing I dislike about this car and that is the feel of the shifter. At first I thought it just wasn't broke in. Because the car only had 8000 miles when we bought it a month ago. Then I saw the threads about the C6Z shifter.I really hope this improves it. I give everything else on the car a 10.

installed it today, works great! had a couple of frustrating moments. I dropped the small screw (behind the ashtray) and it fell in the little opening then down behind the carpet insulation and tunnel I had to fish with a magnet for 15-20 minutes to find it. Also after I was all done, console back together. The shifter was locked up. What a idiot. So I had to take it all apart again! I guess you have to lift up on this little rod to unlock it! What is this for? Some kind of maintenance function?

Gene,
I heard there was a big difference between the 06 and 07 Z06 shifter.

Is that accurate?

Thanks
Jim

Jim,

I don't have any information available to back up that claim. Maybe we'll find out more soon!

Thanks,
Gene

I'd rather just install a B n M ripper or short shifter made for the C5Z. How much improvements did they make on the new stock Z06?
