Default Looking for advice on maintenance

I would like to learn more about maintaining my Vette myself. I'm a pretty mechanically inclined type of person, and would have no problem replacing odds and ends that go wrong. What is the Bible of Corvette maintenance? I saw on a three volume service set on ebay for my model, but didn't know what exactly that was or what's in it, and if it would be worth getting something like that.

When you guys need parts or whatever where do you go to look them up?

Usually I go to Fred Beans for parts, he is a supporting vendor here.
Other parts as oild filter etc I just go to my local parts store. Its a Corvette but it only has a LS1/LS6. You can find find alot of parts thru normal parts stores.

The 3 volume set you mentioned is the bible. They are not cheap. They run around 1400 pages and there is one hell of a lot of stuff in them. If you are lucky you may find a GM Factory Repair Manual DVD that contains everything in the 3 volume set plus all of the Service Manuals for the other GM cars from 1997 through 2005 or 2006. I got mine last year for $25 compared to the original service manual that I got for my 97 which cost $140 brand new in 97. The paper manual is easier to work with at times but the DVD manual is searchable which helps quite a bit. When the paper manual tells you to go to another section to do something you may have to search all 1400 pages to find it while the DVD hyperlinks you right to the spot. Although the cars changed quite a bit over the C5 model years I find the 97 manual still applies to the parts that remained common and I use it in the garage while the DVD is on my computer in the computer room. I make extensive use of both versions.

You will need one or both of these versions of manuals to properly maintain the car. The manuals have diagnostic procedures for all of the trouble codes that show up on the car. You can find descriptions of the trouble codes at various places on the internet but they are all missing the key ingredient you need to trouble shoot your car which is the diagnostic procedure that goes with each DTC.

I'm using the three manual GM set from my 98 on my 2001. It does the job very nicely even with the three year difference.
