I noticed today all of a sudden the DIC readout went dim and then a few minutes later faded to black. I parked the car, ran an errand, came back, and started the car. The DIC came on dim, but barely readable, then faded and disappeared. Any suggestions or explanations?

Check out the dimming switch. see if its hot, might have to replace.
i know this is an old post but did you ever find a solution to the problem? My vette is doing the same thing. If the dimmer switch dims and brightens everthing else just fine, is it still the switch?
xtremejimmy, you should open a new thread since this is so old, it us subject to closure. But while you are considering doing just that, question: is the HVAC and HUD displays also dim at the same time and during the day or are we talking about nighttime? If its during the day and all of those are dimming, there's a light sensor at the top of the DIC controller that might be having an issue.
everything else is fine. the only issue is with the actual DIC itself. When i first crank up the car and go, it is nice and bright. after a few minutes of driving, it begins to dim on its own. everything else unaffected. starting to think the actual dic itself is going bad maybe. is this a common issue on these cars? my last vette didnt have this problem. the only problem i ever experienced was the a/c control gauges getting dim and i sent that to get repaired.
I've never heard of the IP Cluster's DIC display having this issue alone. Sure, anything is possible. I'm going to guess here, the IP Cluster is having a problem. You might try a PM to Bill Curlee as I sent him a IP Cluster to play with so he might be able to locate the circuits for this. Yes, the DIC is part of the IP Cluster.
i messaged him but he was stumped as well. I might just take it apart and look further into it. I really want to get this thing worked out. Kinda frustrating when im trying to see oil temp, etc.. and I cant once it dims so bad
