Default DIC says 'service everything'

Whenever I park or unpark my Z06 in a tight spot, the computer warns with the messages 'service ABS', 'service traction control' and 'service active handling'.

If shut off and restart the car, no messages appear, and these systems appear to be working fine. (Have been to the track, and these systems seem to work very well, if you know what I mean...)

Anyway, I've seen similar posts regarding Service Bulletin 01-0525-004.
However, people having that problem don't seem to be seeing all three of these messages.

I initially had the problem only periodically, but it has since started occurring more and more frequently. It is bad enough now that I can simply start the car, crank the wheel back and forth a few times, and the messages appear. There is a tight corner coming into my garage which requires a 3-point maneuver, and I can barely park without triggering it

Pulled the information from the computer immediately after causing the condition, and there are no current codes(!). The following two are there, but marked as H... C1226H (excessive wheel speed variation) and U1064H (loss of comm. with DCM).

I previously took the car to the dealer, and they didn't seem to have a clue, so I figured I'd live with the problem for a while. It is so annoying that I've got to get it fixed. Have an appointment tomorrow, but am not very confident. They weren't aware of the forementioned service bulletin.

Do you guys think this is the 'reprogram ABS module' problem?

Any other hints?

appreciate it,

Sounds like the steering wheel position sensor. I had mine replaced after the service guy had tried to reprogram the module. I guess it does not work on the 2k2. I have never had the code come back.

Antigrav- Same thing happened to my 40 mile 01 Z06 on the way to Corvettes at Carlisle this year. Drove into NJ with DIC indicators on and flashing at me. Pulled into a rest stop and upon restart all indicators gone. I spoke with 2 Corvette Engineers at Carlisle and they explained that the Steering Position Sensor is picking up an "out of parameter reading" this is due to two things-first the contacts in the steering position sensor some times don't seat correctly- actual fix is to cycle steering lock to lock about 50x's, second is the software parameters that GM has in the '01's is to narrow a range, hence an out of parameter is easy to set. GM is coming out with a revised steering sensor parameter software load. I don't know the mileage on your '01. The dealer can check to see if you have the updated software as required in the ABS/Traction Control Service Bulletin.

As expalined to me by the engineers, if all else fails replace the steering position sensor- this is a big job as its buried all the way at the base of the steering column-

I would explore all possibilities and try the lock to lock cycling before the steering position sensor replacement. All three DIC indications are indeed interconnected with the steering position sensor issue.

Hope this helps.

My car has ~11K mi. Doubt I have the new software. Car was built a year ago August.

I will try the lock to lock cycling. If that fails, maybe the software upgrade, or (dread..) position sensor.

I previously had the steering lock problem fixed. Vaguely recall getting the 'service abs' warning a few times before this.. Assume this doesn't touch the sensor?

Thanks for the feedback!

You'd think that if the problem was getting progressively worse, something other than the software would be to blame.

Nonetheless, had the upgrade described in Service Bulletin 01-0525-004 performed this morning, and the problem appears to be fixed.

thanks again for the info.
