Codes in DTC? If you've lost comm. w/ one of the modules (i believe the BCM controls the hatch/fuel door buttons but i could be wrong) that may be the problem. Otherwise - i dunno, so GL to ya!
Oh - i'd also remove the console and check the connection to the button, make sure it's actually working and not broken/disconnected/melted etc...
If you, dealer or previous owner has removed the center console in the past, the wires might have gotten pinched or the male/female connector might have come loose.
Some have complained about water getting into the mechanism under the lid, which damages it. Some have had success in removing the mechanism or lubing the mechanism with WD40 or favorite lubrication.

Happened to me last summer, right after radio work (by myself). I've had the console out six or seven times without problems, but the last time (actually, second to last time ), I didn't "lock" the connector for the fuel door button completely. When I got home after the fuel fillup, off came the console one more time -- reconnect the button wire (tightly this time) -- door works correctly.
So.... the question is, did you have the console off for a shifter install or radio or climate control work?
Had clutch replaced recently (LPE650TT). Would console have been involved???
Yes, it is also common for the connector to get pulled out on removal. It happend to me after the dealer serviced a clutch issue. I did not realize until a few weeks later when I required petrol.
Sounds like it was left disconnected. As a last ditch effort incase you are running super low on fuel, pull the carpet back on the inside of the car right behind where the fuel door is. You'll see the steel cable there. just give it a little tug and it should open the fuel door manually.

Center Console Removal: Lift center storage bin. Locate the two plastic tabs at the rear of the bin. Lift off plastic tabs and locate the two 10mm nuts.
Remove the trim piece with the traction control button by gently prying up. Disconnect the traction control harness and the variable suspension selector harness (if equipped). Disconnect the accessory plug wiring harness. Remove the two 10mm nuts.
Should be able to get it off and on from this to get done what you need to.
Under "OTHER" on the links line at the top of every Forum page, there is a link to "Tech Tips". Members should use these more often. Other forum members have written these to help fix or mod anything you want to do to a Vette, well......almost anything. For all else, just ask EnglandGreen and he will tell you how to do it.

I had this happen a couple of years ago while it was under warranty and in mine case it was a bad solenoid. It was replaced and everything has worked fine since.
