I recently purchased a FOB on e-bay and tried to program it but doesn't seem to work. I get to the point on the computer when it asks to press both the lock and unlock buttons for 15 seconds, but it never registers complete. Any suggestions.

Make absolutely certain that the RFA (remote function actuator)/key fob is the right one. The 97's thru 99's had a passive switch that slid horizontally for on and off. Also there is an FCC ID#AB002167 and a GM#10253839 on the back side of the transmitter. Unless your fob has that on the back - it won't work. The fobs for the newer cars are not compatible with the older cars.
Here is a pic of how the transmitter should look....

Hope that you did get the right one. If so, try checking the battery in the transmitter to make sure it is good.
Thaks for the quick reponse My FOB does not have the passive switch and the FCC# KOBLEAR1XT and the GM # is 25695954
it was advertised for all 1997 through 1999 I guess maybe I got took.
Hopefully you didn't pay all that much for it. I see the newer style pretty cheap all the time on Ebay. Try to resell it. You can by a new 97-99 remote for about $85. I wouldn't buy a used remote as you don't usually save that much money and most likely are buying someone else's problem!
I have the same problem on my 97. BOTH of my stock remotes seem to be busted. i tried replaceing the battery on both then doing the relearn and resync procedures and neither of them seem to work.
i'm going to try the remote from my mom's 98 vert and see if the remote is the problem or if it's somthing worse.
Radio flyer I have the same problem as you with my 97. the fobs are the originals but do not work. replaced the batterys and reprogramed but still don't work. Let me know if you find the problem. I am afraid it might be a computer problem in the car.
Would both of origianal fobs for my 07 go bad at the same time? I would hate to buy new ones and find out it sometyhing on the car that runs the door locks is bad.
sorry i ment 1997. mine don't work at all even after putting new batteries in twice and reprograming twice. my local chevy dealer said the problem probably is a module in the car not the fob and would be very expensive to replace. any ideas on this? could this be true?
Its possible but I doubt it. The module is also the one for the tire pressures. Check the fuse if they both dont work. Try someone else with a 97-99 vette and borrow their fob and train it to your car.
