Hey, how do you remove the pin in the top of the shift **** to replace the ****? I took the shift pattern plate off but can't seem to pry out the slide pin. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Wow! It must take alot of pressure, I tried last night & bent a small screw driver, then went to a bigger one with out any luck. I will try again tonight with a little more force. I didn't want to break something if there was a trick to doing it. Thanks for the help.
The Devil pin is sometimes very difficult to remove. I used a pair of needle nose vise grips to move it from side to side while pulling up. If prying put something over the leather **** so you do not damage it.
There's a small area towards the front of the pin underneath to get leverage under. Use 1 screwdriver for each side and pry simultaneously......it'll seem like you'll screw up the leather on the shift **** before it gives way.
If you need a new shifter ****, you just have to buy a new car....
Seriously, there are serveral techniques on the forum for removing the key...
I had too much time on my hands, so I made a tool that slips under both ears of the key. Here are pictures so you can see how the key is shaped.

get a good grip on the pin with vice grips and then slide a screwdriver bewteen the jaws of the vicegrips. now place a block of wood or any other kind of spacer on the back side, placing the tip of the screwdriver on the block. now just pull up on the handle and it will slide right out.
Warning - If you cause physical harm to yourself, the rear view mirror, or roof during the process you are doing something wrong.
Leverage is your friend - work smarter, not harder!
I tried all these without success when I wanted to chop an inch off the shifter. I finally borrowed a Snap-On mini slide hammer kit from a friend, which worked, but I nearly busted the mirror when it let go.

Thanks.. I knew i wasn't the only one out there that almost ****ed themself or their car up removing it..
Thanks for the info, I will wear a helmet & face shield, maybe even an a cup to protect more vital areas.
Do that! I am ashamed to say when it let go I whacked myself right between the eyes and cut my nose pretty good. Be careful some are harder than others.
