Hi everyone....I've been out of the "game" for some time now....went through back surgery about a year ago and have been into another hobby (racing RC cars).
So I haven't really had time to drive the vette very much. But when I took it out for a spin a few weeks ago.....I had a horrible leak on both sides right at the top corner on each window.
So I brought it in yesterday and they originally told me it had to do with the way the roof was put on and that it should be fixed. I then get a call back about an hour later saying that they were able to reproduce the problem and that it won't be covered under the extended warranty (car was bought in Oct. of 2002 with under 15k miles on it now). They now say it is going to cost $200 bucks to re-adjust the windows!!!
Is this common?? I recall bringing the car in to the same dealership for the same problem probably close to two years ago and they did the same thing, re-adjust the windows.
Any suggestions?? Or do I just bite the bullet on this one? Thanks in advance!
Hopefully you still have the reciept for the last work they claimed they did, if so , contest that the problem was never fixed, and why would a window not be covered under your extended warranty (what are the guidlines for your warranty coverage).
To be honest....I didn't reazlie I had an extended warranty until he mentioned it on the phone. I think someone in my household threw away all my paperwork (salles documents, extended warranty, ect) two or three years ago when I had pulled it out of the glove box to setup the initial mailing of corvette quarterly.
And I'm pretty sure that the receipt fromt he previous work done is in the glove box in the car at the dealership as we speak. :-(
I know, I know....I'm not feeling like a very good corvette owner at the moment!
Shame on you!!! Pay up!!! j/k.
Two years later, you don't have a prayer. I doubt the warranty would cover new moldings either, let alone the adjustment. Expect a long list of other to do's from them too.
I am having the same problem with my 2000 vert and my dealer told me the same thing. I also have an extended warranty through GMPP. They said it would cost about $100 per window to adjust them tighter against the rubber weather stripping. I have tried everything from lubricating the rubber with silicone grease to adjusting the top (the window wasn't lining up right) and nothing has worked. Looks like the window adjustment is my last hope because I really do not want to go as far to replace all the rubber on the top. Luckily I have some guys in the local Corvette club that would be happy to help me with the adjustment and beer is a cheap price to pay!
Yeah, just got a call back.....basically said that the original fix was done under factory warranty which has expired. And the extended will not cover this type of work. Guess this is what I get for not driving it more often. Hopefully it will fix the problem. Thanks for the quick replies.
