The C5 Corvette is an amazing piece of engineering, and its engineered to be a sports car. Yes there is def. cabin noise inside, but that comes along with having a sports car. If you want a quiet ride, get a S class mercedes Take one for a test drive, you won't be dissapointed.
I think that the C5 is really a great sports car. If you are looking for a totally quiet ride with the most luxurious interior you are really looking for a full size luxury car. Good Luck!
I just got my 98 this Christmas.
I have been smiling every time I drive it. I LOVE this car!
Noise yes, but then we all have a different definitions of noise and we all have a differrent tolerance levels. It is much quiter then my scooter.
So It all comes down to you. Drive a few and you may be willing to put up with a little more noise then you are used to for the sheer enjoyment of driving a vette.
Hope you join the club.
Happy Trails.
I've been reading the reviews and they are starting to scare me away from the Vet. Mainly because of the cabin noise. Every review I've read has said that it is a very noisy vehicle in terms of the engine noise and the tires. ...Have not driven one yet.
With all due respect to a new member...put down the idiotic magazine reviews and go DRIVE one!!!
How can anyone who doesn't know you possibly answer the questions you pose?
There is only one choice if you want a Sports Car with muscle. I just got my vert back from service. And can't wait to drive it. If you are concerned with noise and not performance and beauty it is not the car for you. I have a small sticker on my Harley that says "If I have to explain, you wouldnt understand" I think that is true with vettes as well as harleys.
All sports cars are noisy. It's part of their charm, and extra sound deadening material just slows 'em down. Plus, anyone that thinks a Corvette is noisy has obviously never driven a Viper.

i have a 99 vert and i LOVE IT! but a road trip gets annoying after a while. it is almost quieter with the top down than with it up. but i would not trade it
First of all - you do not buy a Corvette in order to put yourself in a quiet mild mannered luxury car. That's what Lexus is for.
Corvettes are engineered to be relatively low-cost sports cars.
The Z06 is intended to be an "extreme" sports car.
The Corvette is supposed to be a lightweight, powerful, road car with excellent handling.
Any car with low profile tires and a track tuned suspension will have a harsher ride than your grandmothers Le Sabre.
The Z06 is even more sporting, and as such has less sound deadening materials in order to be marginally lighter. The result is more tire-to-road noise than in the standard coupe, which in turn is louder than most all sedans.
If something as benign as road noise can spoil your enjoyment of a sports car, perhaps you should consider a sports sedan like a BMW or CTS-V etc -
Simply put, the Corvette errs on the side of performance, where other less extreme performers err on the side of luxury.
The final thing I would add is that I believe that the C5 Z06 rides much better than the standard C5 that has the stock runflat tires - those runflats are like hard rubber tricycle tires and ride harsh as can be. The F1 Supercars are much better riding.
I'm looking at a 99 myself and just drove one for about 45 mins the other day and yes the runflats you CAN HEAR . But you know what... the sounds of the car makes you remember youre driving a Corvette ....the engine sounds great. If I could drop a pair of Borla's on this car I'm looking at I'd be even happier. I agree with the one guy that said if this kind of stuff bothers you a Vette may not be the car youre interested in. I also agree before you get scared away go drive a few and see how you feel then. But in my case after having 2 others I want a Vette to sound like a Vette I never want to forget what I'm driving.
why would you own a C5 if you couldn't hear the engine rumble ?
buy it , put Borla Stingers on it, and you won't hear most of the noises you are worried about .
You can't expect the quietness of a luxury sedan from a sports car , at least not made in the good ole USA! VROOM VROOM
If you are worried about a little noise then you may want to look into buying a Cadillac...they seem to be very quiet...otherwise all Corvettes make some noise...I have been enjoying the horrible "Corvette noise" for decades
i have a 99 vert with top up and windows closed not much different than my pick-up , with top down and the permagin going it affects my hearing so i don't hear any thing but the wind and exhaust ,
The only source of objectionable noise I noticed was from the GY runflats which I dumped in favor of Kumhos. That made a huge difference in noise (not to mention ride quality and handling). The fuel pump also seems a bit loud, but I'm used to it.
