Are Polished Wheels Coated

Are GM thin spoke polished wheels clear coated? If yes, what is the best way to remove the clearcoat on the inside of the wheel so I can paint them grey like the polished Crays?

From: Not on either liberal coast.

You'll probably have to re-polish them afterwards, but aircraft quality paint stripper will remove the factory clear coat from most wheels. A good automotive paint supply vendor will have it. Use with caution!

Yes, they are clearcoated. Mid-America used to sell a clearcoat stripper, but you would have to be really careful to not get it on the outside of the wheel. What I would do is strip the entire wheel, paint the barrels and then reclear them.

Why are you painting the INSIDE of your wheels? Is this the backside or the barrels? My barrels are polished.

Yeah - want to paint the "barrels" (didn't know that's what they were called). Thnaks for the ideas /links -- just want to strip that part out and leave the rest.

strip it all and polish them better and then reclear...someone a while back posted strippin the clear off them and polishing them frequently and they looked tons better than that cloudy clear that developes on te original ones...
