If you're getting a code, it means the ECU is seeing the circuit as disconnected - just like if you disconnect it without using an eliminator plug.
I'd remove and re-install, make sure the side with the module (that contains the resistor) and locked down good and tight - it's possible you got a bad one (mine went bad after a couple of years).
If you decide to get another one, mount the product in an insulated ADEL clamp on the same transmission mounting ear with a 1/4-20" bolt/nut. It'll isolate the plastic from heat much better than the plastic tie wrap.
I think I melted it at an hpde day. Tran temp got 275f.
Cheap junk
I think that may be how mine cooked! I even had tie strapped it away from the tranny. I think 2 years + extended heat of DE's eventually just did it in. For the $20 I paid, I wasn't too bummed out.
I reconnected mine per factory and used HPTuners to "tune it out" - now I don't even get the 1-4 shift indicator
My Mid America CAGS Eliminator failed after three weeks of use. Same symptoms. Check Engine Light occured as soon as 1st to 4th Shift light came on. Wonder if they have a quality issue?
If they are buying from the lowest cost supplier & it's installed in a very hostile environment, then I think it's a low quality part doomed to fail sooner or later. Depends on what you put it thru (Sunday cruise to golf course OR track day)
Bought my CAGS Skip Shift Eliminator from INDY-MOTORWERKS on ebay back in November and put it on when I put my exhaust on during the Christmas holidays. The check engine light came on a couple of weeks after I put it on. I can clear the P0803 code (1-4 Upshift Solenoid Control Circuit) and the check engine light goes out, but comes right back on after I drive the car again.
I went back tonight and looked at their for sale ad for the part and found it was a Performance Choice part which is a MidAmerica brand or at least one that they carry. Here's what INDY's ad says in part......."Performance Choice 6-Speed Skip Shift Bypass will protect the open ends of the harness and prevent throwing trouble codes........". Guess I'm going to contact them and see if I can get a refund for a defective part or get them to send me another one that is not a Performance Choice part.
Anybody have any luck getting your money back or the part swapped? Thanks! Mike
