Hey guys,
I went to re-new my license today (should have yesterday).
And to make a long story short, I cant drive for ten months.
(Too many speeding tickets)
Anyways, Im looking for advice as I really need my license for work, otherwise im basically screwed.
The lady mentioned I could write a letter and bring it back and they could fax it to the head honchos.
Not only that Id like to drive the car this summer as it would be back in the garage by october.
Any help/ideas/suggestions are more than welcome.
Much appreciated.
Here in the state, you often can get a work operating permit. You can drive for work, but nothing else. However, with a history of speeding, I'm not sure the authorities would want you behind the wheel anytime soon. Wish you well.

All I can think of is follow the advice you were given. Not sure if there are any provisions in your state's driving laws for you to only be able to drive for work. Hindsight is 20/20, but should have really thought about the consequences before you got all those tickets.
Tickets are paid, have been for a while. Have to pay the "driver penalty points" now though.
Im not sure about the laws here, I will go the attorney route I suppose.
And I know its my own stupid fault, and should have thought about the consequences before hand, but now I need to fix the mess.
Thanks guys
You just need to grow up and switch your priorites to something more productive. If you follow the rules of your country, you might find things go a lot easier for you in the future. Sorry I have no "quick fix" for you. Don't take this as a personal attack...just the facts
Best to consult with an attorney that is familiar with that area of law.

I agree, or some other kind of professional who deals with that kind of thing, long as they know thier stuff and can advise you. Its probably different in canada. I'd be in the same boat I think but the state I have the most agregious double the speed limit in a school zone kind of tickets in does not have reciprocity with my home state, live free or die indeed .
hate to say it and don't want to offend you, but it sounds like you need to sell the vette, buy a slower car until you are able to control your "youth urges". a vette is not for someone who lacks acting mature. Like I said, no offense, we have all been there....
What do you mean by "pay driver penalty points?" If this is a monetary fine on top of what you already have paid then I would take that payment (try and borrow, whatever you need to do) and take that along with your letter stating your work situation and I bet they allow you to drive to work provided you don't get any more tickets.
my .02$. Judges or whatever you call them in Canada are leery about giving back driving priveleges not knowing if they will be getting the fines imposed on you.

Illinois also has a Restricted Driving Permit that can only be used to drive back and forth to work between specific hours. You might want to talk to an attorney.
Ok, Ill be more clear.
First off, How it works here is you get the initial fine for speeding, no seatbelt, whichever. Then on certain fines such as speeding you get points on your license, which every year 30 days before your birthday you get billed for. My fines have all been paid for. Thats not the issue, the issue is too many points to quick.
Second, Im not an idiot, im very responsiible and of the speeding tickets only one was in the car. I will not sell it.
My job is about 70% driving, mostly highway, and its those going through small areas where the limit drops say 20 ish And im just not paying attention to signs. No excuse.
Im not a reckless driver, speeding like an idiot all over the place.

Didn't they notify you by mail that your driving privileges were going to be suspended? You'd think they'd have some means of communicating that information to you before you went in to renew your license.
You could apply for a work permit, but once you get qualified for one, it is about 6 months. So for the first 6 months your screwed.
The only problem is once the verdict thru the state is set, which is what you cant drive for 10 months. A lawyer wont be able to have the verdict changed.
I wnet thru this, but had my license revoked for 2 1/2 years. I had a lawyer and couldnt get anywhere fast as the state already set there decision.
You say your job requires driving 70% of the time. Get yourself a good lawyer and pursue leniency pleading that driving for work is your job and livelihood. DO NOT PURSUE IGNORANCE OF THE LAW...definitely not the way to go. Best of Luck
