I'm not completely sure with the Kumho, alot of folks have them here and like them, although I have no experience with them. Look at the listing on tire rack, and find the tab called "reviews". People write in reviews of the tire you are thinking of purchasing, many times with a vehicle just like yours. I followed that advice when picking the Goodriches, everyone said the tires were great in rain, so far, I agree. Stay away from the Bridgestone RE050 Pole position, good tire, but noisy.
Ok What are you looking for? The goodrich have a 330 treadwear vs. the Kuhmi's have a 220 tread wear. This means driving the same way & distance on both tires, the goodrich will go more miles. But in most cases, the higher the treadwear, the worse it is in rain. (harder compound. The goodrich (i have been told are noisey) & the Kumho's are softer meaning they are spongy in cornering but quiet. If you are not going to race or continously drive hard in corners, I'd buy the Kuhmos. If you want good mileage ( drive a lot) look at the Kuhmo ecsta asx or spt. they have large tread wear but if you don't drive alot, they will dry rot & crack before the tread wears out. JMO.....
AND I don't find the Goodriches noisy, they are quiet compared with the Goodyear run-like-craps that came with my car, or the Goodyear gator-craps (worse noise) that are on my Mustang. As you can see I'm not a fan of Goodyear. After having three cars with factory Goodyears I was very disappointed in, I certainly wouldn't intentionally put a set on my vehicles.
My wife uses the '04 CE as a daily driver, rain or shine, with about 4000 miles so far on the Kumho XRP's, with no trouble in the wet or dry. They are much quieter than the OEM's. The only negative I've noticed, is a slight "flat spotting" overnight, but it disappears within a mile. Otherwise, for the money, I couldn't be happier!
p.s. We've had a lot of rain lately and we are not afraid to use the GO pedal, so any traction problems should have reared it's head by now!

You might want to consider researching NITTO 555 tires, I believe they have a 300 treadwear rating... which would be in the middle of the two you were considering. They come in the stock sizes for the C5.
I've been running NITTOS on both my C5's and am very happy with the quiet, smooth ride, and the longevity. I've got over 40K miles on the set on my 99 coupe. It doesn't rain much here in Southern California, so I can't really comment on the wet traction...sorry!
I got caught in the rain one night coming from a gathering at a friend's place and the Kumho Ecsta Mx XRP tires handle the massive downpour with no problems. I did take it easy because I had read that this is a extreme summer, dry weather tire, plus I'm no fool and adjusted for the weather conditions.
Tires do have a lot of grip ( dry weather)and some noise. This was a new set that was on the car when I bought it. I love em, but this is what the car came with and I really haven't had anything to compare it to. plus I'm still in aw of the car, after growing up watching my Dad drive us in his two c2's, that feeling never left my mind.
Amazing Cars
I ran both the KUMHO MXs and I have the BFGs on right now and I am a fan of the KUMHO, but the BFG is hands down better IMHO out of these two. Both are decent in heavy rain conditions too.
Between the two I would go with the BFGs, the price is not that different.
I just switched from Kuhmo's to the BF Goodrich KDW's on my coupe. I personaly wish that I had stayed with the Kuhmo's, they seemed to handle the twisties a bit better than the KDW's. I haven't noticed a change in road noise, then again, most times I have the stereo turned up.
I have a set of the KDW's on my Firebird and they are awesome, different application though.

hey what does "flat spotting mean?"
I am definately NOT going to be doing any racing or crazy driving. I use my vette in Los angeles and from town to town as a daily driver.
CA weather of course is going to be very hot and the occasional rainfall
even though these tires are cheap considering the other options they are still going to be a huge investment for me as I have always bought used tires. so with that said i want a tire that is going to last as long as possible!!
"flat spotting" , by my own definition, is what happens when the tires sit overnight in cool weather. They "flatten" slightly where they sit on the ground. When you first start down the road in the morning, there is a slight "bounce"(like an out of balance tire) for about a mile until the tire evens out(warms up?) then it goes away. It is very minimal, mainly in cold weather, and not at all in the hot summer.
I really only had plan to driive in nice weather, but rain wasn't in the forecast and got caught in this massive downpour. I really was pissed, killed all my detail work and in the morning the vette was a mess. Hopefully never again.
