Just curious as to if its possible to convert my ignition in my 99 c5 to a start button similar to the c6? Is it possible? And what would it cost roughly?
Secondly, My highway mileage on my c5 is great (always gets about 330 miles to a tank), but when i am city driving i get about 220 miles to a tank. This seems to be a good amount lower then it should be. I am even using the 1st - 4th shift to try and conserve gas...not working so well....Any ideas?
I work and live on the same installation; my house is approximately 1.5 miles from work. When I commute for nearly the entire tank of gas, I too get about 220-240 a tank w/ only about 40 of those miles being highway. The speed limit doesnt go over 35 so I rarely hit 4th save for the longest road to my work. I get 330-350 with mixed driving + highway. All highway, I dont know about tank range, but I get 29-31mpg.
I believe there are some people that have done it - i think they still had to put the key in and turn it to the "on" position, but then could push the button to actually start the car.
Not sure if anyone has gone quite as far as to get a c6 fob working in a c5 - imagine that would require all kinds of security work.
'99 vert, 6 speed.
I get 30 mpg on the highway.
To and from work about 17mpg, it's half city and half
highway but the highway part is plugged up each evening, wish more people would take the bus so I can have the road to myself, HA HA.
My V6 Saturn gets 22mpg to and from work but only
27mph on the highway, guess it has to do with my right foot on the loud petal in the Vette.

Thanks for the help
thats about what I get in my vette as well.
And Im also very curious about the push button idea. Although I don't care about the fob, I would be happy with just the push button inside the car.
Maites,
I get same gas miles in the city...and i was too worried that something wrong with my car but stop and go driving... plus when youre idling at the light youre using gas and not moving...i think that`s what kills the gas mileage...great thread ...i thought that my twin cone air intake was the culprit for bad mileage...
I got an `98 MN6
I have the push-button on our XLR and frankly would actually prefer a key. There are a number of irritations that go with that system.
Remember on your gas mileage that a cold engine runs rich... and consumes more gas. If your in-town trips are short, that would definitely be a factor.
Thanks for all the info guys. My father has an '05 C6 and I just love that start button. Maybe some day it could be an easy install without having to use the key. As for my mileage, i guess "Delux" is right cause all my trips are to and from school which are about 1.5 miles at a time....
Thanks for all the input, since i just joined the forum that was my first post and appreciate the help!
