I am getting the XXX on left front tire. So after reading forms I was going to try and reprogram the sensor, but after going out to the car I found my back right tire has a rubber stem on it. Which I am thinking all my sensers need to be reprogramed and I need to install a new sensor on my back right tire.
Will the reprogram instructions work on a new sensor? I was looking on Ebay and saw a tool for $29.99 will I need that or will the magnet trick work?
If so, the previous owner my have 'banded' the sensors.
Next, try the relearning procedure - but note that if the wheels are aftermarket, and the sensors are 'banded' it may be difficult, if not impossible, to locate the sensor so they can be reprogrammed.
If at all possible, try and contact the previous owner and determine the actual situation regarding the sensors.
If that is impossible, and the sensors cannot be 'relearned', your best bet is to replace all of them (the car is over 7 years old - it's time).
I used a Magnet on my '99. Works fine. I think the Tool is for shop use. You might want to try that on the rubber valve on as well, there have been threads where people strap the sensor to the Rim, Maybe you'll get lucky. But I doubt it.

Are you getting a readout on your DIC for the other tires?
Just curious if you are getting pressure readings from the other three. I had one acting up, so since it was seven, went ahead and replaced all. Training new ones was easy, just follow directions from this forum or the service manual. A friend of mine drilled a hole through a speaker magnet for me, and it worked marvelously!
Yes I am getting tire reading from 3 of the tired but not the front left. That is where I get a XXX but when I looked at the car I found the rbber valve stem on the back right, which says I am getting a reading I am thinking that is the bad one and the rest are set wrong.

Just get a strong magnet (available from Radio Shack) and reprogram your sensors. And yes, if you have a rubber valve stem on one of them, you will need to install a factory sensor on that wheel too.
