Default Column Lock Question

I'm know this topic has been beat to death but I didnt see my question in prior threads. Is there a certain mileage where the column locks up more so than any other? I've seen/heard others discuss it locking up within the first year or few thousand miles. I bought my 2000 MN6 coupe with 48K miles; it now has 56K miles. The previous owner said he didnt know if a CLB has been installed. I dont think it has because the wheel locks when the car is tuned off. Maybe it had the recall done by the first owner. Just wondering if I should install a CLB at this point with 56K miles if it can still occur. Thanks for your help.

It can happen at any point as far as I know. Mine had never locked at 24K miles but I went ahead and installed the CLB. Better to be safe than stranded in a most inopportune place.

Me Too. At 5 years old I'd never had a problem, but for $50 and some quality "mod time" with the Vette now I WON'T be troubled with an inappropriate column lock.

If your steering wheel locks (when car is off)...you do not have a CLB installed. Just like a flat tire, it could happen at any given time...spending the 50 bucks for a CLB is a cheap insurance policy...do it now, for peace of mind.

Mileage isn't a factor this lousy design. Mine gave it up at 18K. CLB ordered the next day.
