I changed my '87 over to Xenon Plasmas H4 bulbs from APC, and it's a HUUUUUUGE improvement over factory lighting. Contact an APC reseller and see which bulbs you'd need for a Z06.
I have an HID kit sitting in a box in my livingroom right now. I beat the hell out of my arm trying to install it (it's a really tight space) and I couldn't get the bulbs to fit right. I corresponded with some other people who have 2002 cars and they have had similar problems with aftermarket bulbs. It may be a problem just limited to 2002 then. The other issue I ran into is mounting the ballast. It's supposed to stick on to some flat surface. Well I couldn't really find a good surface. The instructions suggested the front of the wheel well (which is right behind the headlight). Well....on a Z06 there is a big duct running right through there. No place for a ballast. Anyway, I did get the bulb in part way, and hooked up the power so I could see it run. it blew my 10 amp fuse, so I put in a 20 (bad practice I know, but I think it was just high draw at startup, which should be ok). Those things are BRIGHT. I love HID lights. I have them on my Lincoln Mark VIII, and I wouldn't have bought the vette if there wasn't an HID kit available for it. Anyway, I think if you get them and manage to install them you will like them a lot. One issue that I had is that HID lights are suppsed to be low beams, and they are supposed to stay on when you go to highbeams. But the kit I got didn't have any provisions for this. You want them to stay on because they take a moment to light up when you turn them on. This could leave you with a fraction of a second of darkness when switching from high to low. Someone told me they installed a kit and wired it such that this didn't happen. I don't know how they did it. My kit simply took power off of the low beam headlight plugs, which naturally turn off when you go to highbeams. So I am working on finding a solution. I am thinking of just taking it to this local shop that specializes in this sort of thing and asking them to figure it out. On a side note, it seems NHTSA is currently investigating complaints about HID headlights. People seem to think they cause too much glare. I HATE that. They really aren't a problem. People with HID lights don't bother me a bit at night. So you might want to get them before some wacko law gets passed banning them, or making them harder to get, or less bright.
The c4 replaces a whole lamp assemble, the c5 replaces just the bulb in the back, but you can get the headlights for the c4 that require the bulbs..DAve
