I don't know but perhaps the Cadillac's built at BG are in the same sequence number line. I'm sure someone will tell us if that is the case.
I surely would not think that many C-6's were built before the C-5 production ceased.

This is not exactly what I attempting to say. The point that I was trying to make was that one cannot go by the VIN to determine the build sequence or number that their car came off the assembly line. The Job or Sequence Number is what the plant uses to marry up parts to cars on the assembly line and not the VIN. It is this Sequence Number that allows them to run containment, prototype and pilot vehicles for upcoming model years on the assembly line along with the current model year cars. I think too this is the point in part that the author of the letter that I mentioned above was also trying to make. In short, there is not any easy or good answer to the question, "what number off the line was my car?''

From your Car's VIN and Sequence Number, I too would agree that it was one of the very last C5s to have been built. And, from everything that I've heard or read, there would have been a certain number of C6s built prior to your car. However, the some 4500 plus variance between the VIN and Sequence Number in your case is the largest I've seen. (Most that I've seen vary by two or three hundred or less.) Without some inside knowledge or access to GM's data base, I don't think there is any way of knowing the reason for this or what those jobs were.

The date on the build sheet is 6/10/04 My Vette was delivered to the dealer in July and I bought it July 24th.

Is it possible that GM might have just blocked out 4500 sequence #s for C6 and other production?

This is probably the answer

A new Cadillac, the XLR, was introduced in 2004 and was built alongside Corvettes in the Bowling Green KY assembly plant. A new era would begin as the fortunes of both the Cadillac and Corvette would be connected.

I do not know what methods and practices GM follows at the plant in assigning the Job or Sequence Numbers. We took Museum delivery on our car in April of 2003 and the plant had already started building the XLRs at that time. I do know that the XLRs are built on a separate assembly line from the C5s and C6s.

You may already know this, but the only printed date on the factory Build Sheet that appears at the top right is not the actual Build Date for your car. The factory Build Sheet is produced some time prior to build start and accompanies the car down the assembly line as it is being built. Sometime ago, I asked Adam Boca, NCM Events and Vendor Coordinator, if he knew or could find the significance of this date on the Build Sheet. Adam replied that it was the projected completion date and not the actual Build Date. I think most people will find that the date on their Build Sheet is some 8 to 11 days or so prior to their car's actual Build Date. The date on our car's Build Sheet is some 13 days prior to it's actual Build Date.

Information I have shows that Model year 2004 production ended on July 2, 2004. Based on this same information, my best guess is that your car's Build Date would be somewhere around or on June 21, 2004. However again, this is strictly a guess on my part. You can find your car's actual Build Date by having one of your local dealers inquire your car's History/Build Information in the GM Vehicle Inquiry System (VIS). The Build Information portion of the GM VIS inquiry will show your car's actual Build Date. You may find it best to ask someone in the dealer's service department to run this for you. If you can't find a dealer who will do this, several members here also have access to GM VIS. Start a new post in C5 General requesting a GM VIS History/Build Info inquiry on your car and include your car's VIN in your post. Hopefully one of these members will come along shortly and run this for you.

Hope this helps and good luck!
