cool writeup, this is a great bolt on for the C5, only thing to note is the stock 17" wheels won't work up front

I've have the Z51 upgrade available for $595 in CT

This seems like the natural upgrade to go with new 18/19 wheels.

What was the grey "paint" on the rotors when you got them? I see you painted them with the High Temp paint, did you paint inside the "cooling fins"?

Its not any kind of coating, just a spray paint? I have heard "rumors" of new rotors being coated from the factory, I was curious weather or not those were coated or just painted to stop them from rusting until they go on the car.

Pushes over a wheel stud---temporarily holds the disc in place during factory assembly.

if it's a temporary thing, was it left on by accident?

No, the factory just leaves them on ... you'll find one on a stud on each wheel the first time you take the wheels off the car. Most people leave tthem there until the first time they replace their rotors. If you install aftermarket wheels you should pull them off as some aftermarket wheels aren't machined to make room for the clip. It could act like a "spacer" on that stud, and you don't want that.

The stud clips are only for assembly line use... when removing the rotor, these must come off and are not required to be reinstalled(the Wheel holds everything secure).
To the OP, did you paint the whole rotor? I would not have painted the whole rotor, but instead masked off the area contacting the brake pad material. once the paint rubs off into the material and the pad "cures" you can change the compostion in the pad material enough render the pads inefficient and/or noisy. this is how I did mine....From this-

Why in the world did you paint the entire rotor? I can see painting the hat and fins, but why the firepath? It'll just rub off.

I have the C6 Z51 brakes on my 2001 Z06 and let me tell you that there is a world of difference with braking. Braking is actually fun now! And the 17 inch stock Z06 rims will fit with this setup. It is very very close but it works. I went ahead and ran the 19/20 inch setup Z06 chrome motorsport rims. Congrats on the cool mod!

I work on brakes every day, the "rumors" are true, however the coating is usually a thin layer of (transparent) oil to keep rotors from rusting on the shelves. I've never seen the "grey"coating as seen in the pics. I could be wrong though, I've never ordered C6 Z51 rotors, they looked like they were painted
