I am having a new exhaust system installed next week. I am thinking of having a GHL system, no X pipe for a better sound. I have met a couple of guys who say the corsa pace car with X pipe is perfect. What do you think. ( I know this subject is old but it is new to any new corvette owner) thanks
George
an x-pipe is not that important. really. you'll have guys tell you about gurgle noise and better sound and popping exhaust and whatnot. but if chevrolet didnt put one on and cars have been getting along fine without them, i think you'll be okay.
I just put in an Xpipe... running B&B PRT
the Xpipe made is quieter in the cabin, but "meaner" from the outside
it feels like it plows to 100 quicker too, but there's too many variables in the weather and such to justify that to the Xpipe.
I got mine off Ebay (FLP is the brand, not SLP) and the guy sent along a dyno sheet with 11hp rwhp indicated gain.

I put a B&B Route 66 exhaust on my car with the stock H-pipe in place and I got lots of resonance and popping from the exhaust - noises I did not like. Installed a Bassani X-pipe and 95% of that noise went away. Do you have to have an X-pipe - No. But at least for me, it made the car much more enjoyable.
If I go for a hi-flow crossover, it will be an "X". I'm old-school, (51 YO)
but I put an SLP "X" on my Mustang. "I'M SOLD" !!!!! They are awesome! Great tone, faster revving. "Using an "H" pipe is like using a rotary dial telphone, why would you, when you have a better alternative?

I was skeptical when I installed a corsa x-pipe if it would even make any difference at all. I was very suprised at how much it changed the sound and cleaned up the idle gurgle and popping on decel. It also made the car louder and a higher pitch... I would say that if you are NOT going to do a header package- it is worth it to get an x-pipe for the benefits described.
Got it. Love it. Never going back. Thinking of replacing it with a catted one in the spring though, to reduce the smell. The GF doesn't like me smelling like my car for 6 hours after I've driven in it.

I am the new owner of a 2000 6 speed coupe. I only got to drive it for a few weeks, then had to put it away for the winter. The car has a Corsa exhaust, but no X-pipe. The engine is stock. I noticed right away the unpleasnt motorboat type gurgle and popping (although it really only sounds bad at idle)...In any case, I guess I'm convinced that the X-Pipe will help. The question here is how much should I plan on spending, and more important, will it bolt right on to what I have now, or does something else have to change to accomidate it.
The second thing is the car still has the stock air intake. I was looking at upgrading this to possible a Black wing (or something). What do you guys think would be the better of the (2) upgrades to do first. Also, what is the preferred air intake to get.
I have a C4 but the C5 world is new to me so I would appreciate any thoughts or comments.
I have a Corsa. Got it to get rid of the exhaust jingle. It did, and also smoothed out the exhaust and got rid of the poping on decel (I miss the popping though).
Am I the only one who LOVES the popping on decel? My 98 had just the Corsa Pace Car and I LOVED it!!! I still have the stock exhaust on my 99 and it sounds like a puss.
an x-pipe does add hp. i added one on my mercedes and i actually gained about 20rwhp and 10rwtq. added one on the vette and it made the exhaust sound a lot better, also 10rwhp / 15rwtq more.

Every Vette tuner I have spoken to says this is just not true. And they have the dyno data to prove it.
Can you provide any data that proves your assertion of a 10 rwhp gain?
