Once in a while it would happen in my 91 Camaro, my 95 Vette, and now my 00 Vette . I am shocked this still gets screwed up on an 00 model. I haven't heard of this with a C5 and didn't know it was possible. You know that little chip on the key? From what I understand the ignition reads it to prove its the real key and not rigged up by a theif. Have you ever put the key in the ignition and everything seems normal, DIC lights up to were you left off and all, but when you turn the key the car doesn't start. If you wait about 5 - 10 minutes and try again everything is fine. Since I am on my 3rd GM product (actually my 5th including older Monte Carlo and Blazer too old for this theft deterent crap ) so my little bit of research shows that it seems like after driving for a while, shutting the car off for a few minutes up to an hour, and then trying to start again is when it seems to happen. I go home for lunch as often as I can. My C5 did it for the first time yesterday after I ate, and today it added a new twist I haven't seen on any of my Chevys. When I turned the key it did nothing for maybe 2 or 3 full seconds and started up. But the orange "Security" light on the dash stayed lit the entire 8 mile ride back to work. Anyone else have this happen?

Just bumping this up for you, but YES! I had a '95 Buick Roadmaster that did this (including the security light on the dash) had a new key made, cleaned the contacts in the tumbler and it stopped doing it. Same thing as you described, when it wouldn't start if you let it sit for a half hour or so it would more than likely start. I was told the security system will "reset" after roughly that amount of time. Good luck with this.
My car does this. I always take the key out and rub the heck out of it. I've tried to use computer compressed air to clean the ignition and alcohol on the chip. Nothing works still does it very often. Sometimes getting out and locking the car wait about 10 seconds unlock door with key it'll fire right up. I've had times where this didn't work. First time it does it this season I'm getting a new key.
Thanks, glad to see it ain't just me. Come to think of it I haven't vaccummed in a while:o Local carwash, not that I would wash it there, has pretty powerful vaccums maybe a little blast will help. Thats a neat trick with the lock, maybe there is a way to fool the security system. You would think I would have solved this by now, I ended up getting a new key with the Camaro. It ended up doing it again The 95 Vette I fixed with a new to me 00
I've had the same problem. I've learned that if I put a slightly different pressure on it (pushing in as turn it, pulling out a bit as I turn it, or even a little pressure at an angle), I can get it to start. It usually takes a couple of tries, but I don't have to get out and wait anymore. One of these days I'm going to replace my keys and ignition cylinder.
