do you have to pull the engine to replace the headers?
stock C5.
i dread the thought of pulling the engine or paying someone to do it. i can do most of the work on the car myself but it will be hard (read imposable) for me to pull the engine alone. the mods i plan to do are a honker intake, full exhaust package and much later a big cam and i know i will have to pay someone to put in the cam and all it's parts. that is fine but right now i would like to replace the headers back to the tail pipe and do it myself.
I did my Dynatech SuperMaxx system with only 18" clearance. I only needed to loosen the starter and remove valve cover on pass side. Simple install. Good luck
I did my Dynatech super maxx system myself on ramps didn't even have to touch the motor mounts. It only took about 6hrs without any help I had never done anything like that before so it must be pretty easy
NO with TPIS LTs, my buddy and I did mine. Starter, valve cover, and car kind of high off the ground and you can do it in a day with the right tools and patience.
I just put my TPIS headers in last week, and all you have to do is remove valve covers(easy) and starter and alternator. As far as the mufflers you will have to get the back end of the car as far as you can off the ground. I have heard of people cutting the factory muffler pipe that goes over the axel but then the muffler are really no good if you wanted to reuse them later. Just take your time and you will be fine. This forum is one of the best for people helping out people. There is no doubt in my mind that if you run into any problems that there will be more people to help you out than you could imagine. Good luck, have fun, and don't worry just take your time and you will be fine. Plus you will enjoy your car more if you are the one who actully does most of the work. Look at these links they might be some help for you.

No, you don't have to pull the engine to install headers. Do a search and you should find some threads that describe the process for installing the headers.

There MAY be headers that don't fit, but they are unknown to me. All that I am aware of do not require moving the engine. I installed my own - a 17 curse job, but not impossible or all that difficult. Just a bit awkward and frustrating as you try to twist and turn unweildy metal.
That is a good header install article - I put on Dynatech's, and I followed the LS1howto as much, if not more, than I followed the Dynatech instructions.
