Has this happened to anyone else? When I have the door panel off and put the window down the power window components will actually touch my window. It ruins my tint by putting a big scrape in it all the way down. It does it on my driver and passanger side. I need to fix this because this is the 2nd time I will have to have my windows retinted. Best Buy did it when they were working on my alarm but they arent paying to fix it because its a problem with my car and not something they did incorrectly. I want to fix this so I dont end up retinting my windows for a 3rd time. It happens about 5 inchs from the back of the window where what i believe is the power window motor sits.
BTW if the door panel is on, it keeps the window off the components, but if you look very closely at the tint it looks like it still just maybe barely touches it.
My tinted window has a pea sized chunk of the tint scratched off right where you describe. I've seen others with the same problem. Mine is quite small and I can live with it so I'm not going to fix it. It's only on the driver's side.
just a few days ago i notice a huge scratch all the way down my driver side window...Difference for me is that is is on the outside so my tint didnt get ruined, my whole window did. I am getting the window replaced this week and when i find out whats scratching it ill let you know... Even though my scratching is coming from the opposite side, could be a similar problem

I had that exact same thing before best buy put the window down, then the scratch happened
now how to fix it so i dont spend a couple hundred bucks to get it ruined again.

I had this happen on an '87 Vette and a 2000 Explorer. The lower window seal has a couple of rivets holding it to the door. One of these rivets can back out slightly over time and as you raise and lower the window it will straight line scratch the outside glass. To see if this is the problem, lower the window, hold back the seal with a wooden ice cream stick, etc., and look in there with a flashlight. If it's a rivet doing the damage, you should be able to see it sticking out. A temporary fix is to use a small flat blade screwdriver to push it back in. The real fix calls for pulling the door panel off and replacing the rivet.

well it looks like i found the fix, its the window tip in procedure, the previous owner probably tipped in the window too much and now i have this problem, looks like a 5 minute fix
