Default Could use your help finding a sub-sub-assembly piece...

I-75 from Macon, GA all the way down to I-4 in Orlando FL sucks.

Sometimes I wonder if they keep those roads under construction because they don't have any place to store those millions of flashing cones... anywho.

Was driving at night and I saw the right side headlamp fall down, Great. I just replaced the stripped plastic gear.

Turns out that parts 20 and 22 in the image below rattled out and are now lost somewhere in Valdosta, GA.

And no, a "search and rescue" party is not an option.

Went to the dealership expecting to get hosed, but I apparently didn't pay my Irony bill for the month and they threw this at me: "You cant buy just those pieces, they are only purchasable with the entire sub-assembly and that is $400, we have one out back, will that be cash or charge?"

Went to an isolated parts shop... they had nothing either and did get a chuckle out of the pricing.

So... I come the collective "you" in hopes that someone knows where I can get these parts *or* a reasonable facsimile there of.

I really dont want to pop open the other light to find out, if I have learned one thing about corvettes in my paltry year of ownership is that I shouldn't be messing with working stuff for fear that the gremlins will hear about it.

So... Thanks for any assistance you guys/gals might have!

How about an appropriate sized nail, cut off and with a groove cut in it at the end, and a c-clip on the end from an auto parts or hardware store? Or if not practical to cut the groove, drill a hole through the end and set up a washer and cotter pin? Or would the right machine screw with two nuts on the end work? Just random thoughts.

Another thought I had looking at the pic is that that looks like a pivot pin that is held in place by a push-on type retainer. You might try a Home Despot or Loews and see if they have any assortments of "clevis pins" that would work. Look on the driver's side to check diameter, etc. Nice thing about clevis pins is that they have a series of predrilled holes in the shank portion and you could just slip the right size flat washer over the end after inserting it and then retain it with a cotter pin in one of the holes. Don't forget to lube too.

Robert

Take the one out of the other side and have one machined.

I know exactly the pin you are missing. Saw this just recently when I up graded my actuator motor "gears." No one can see this piece when in operation. What I would do is just find the proper length/diameter machine screw and nyloc nut and save yourself about $399. You gotta love it when car manufacturers do this to us, right?
