Ok guys I need some help here. I found an amazing deal on a 97 C5. Its a 97 with 42K on it for $15 flat. It has a stock auto tranny but here is the list of mods for the motor.
1997 C5 with 46k miles. Body is in good shape, ABS and traction control does not work. Silver with C6 crome repro's (17's & 18's).
Here's a list of mods:
I'm trying to figure out what this car would run. And how it would do from a roll race. I told myself that I would never buy an automatic, but this car is super clean! Now it is on a stock rear end and tranny. How would those hold up? Even from a stop too? Also, what could I do to get more power out of it?
Sounds like a solid car....not super fast...but fun. Should be reliable and do fine with the stock rear-end and transmission. It's not gonna set the world on fire racing...so I wouldn't really worry about that....unless you step it up with f/i, n2o, or a stroker motor. I would research how it's been driven so far and by whom. I would also work on your own skills...which many people forget about...maybe your next mod can be a driving school. That's a worth while investment.

i can drive just fine. I am probably going to put a 100-125 shot on it too. And some drag radials. I mostly race from a roll but if I get called out from a stop I would like to be able to do it without worrying about breaking something. I figure I might put some 3.73's in it too.
Since your interest seems like straight-line racing, I would go with the SS. If you want to run on a road course or have fun in the twisties, get the Vette.

if you are a 1/4 mile guy, or light to light drag racer, get the SS...it will launch a lot better with the solid axle..rather than trying to launch the Vette with IRS (although it is an auto but still).
Also, the ABS/Traction control, could potentially be expense to fix, but again just depends on what is wrong.
For the price and mods though, that is a good deal on the vette.
Thats a great price. I would do a carfax to make sure it was not wrecked and buy it. What kind of gears does it have? if they are 273s you will want to change them out.
not that the ss is bad but a vette is always the way to go... the TC could be an exspensive thing but it could also just be a clitch bc i know my 97 randomly turns itself on and off sometimes but its not a big deal really, so if it really bothers you just have someone look at it and see if they can tell you whats wrong. good luck
I have decided to go with the SS. It only weighs 102lbs more than the vette stock vs. stock. The camaro weighs around 3000lbs now bc of the light weight suspension mods it has. I am a straight line guy and I just dont see a vette being a good daily driver. Sure it would be during the summer but that stall would get annoying when trying to take off. Plus driving a vette in bad weather is just retarded.
nooooooo!! think again about what you are doing...
as you can see in my signature, ive owned an SS myself and I can personally tell you it was one of the funest cars I have driven...but it doesnt compare to the vette (plus theres only a difference of about 18 rwhp anyway)
here's a couple of things I did with my SS:
complete edlebrock/bilstein race suspension
slp headers, exhaust, y-pipe, 4.10's, tune...etc.
as soon as I got the vette, I havent looked back (I do miss it sometimes when I feel like having fun because I kinda feel bad messin with the vette) but that vette above at that price is a steal!

but of course, its your decision
if the vette was a 6spd it would make it a much harder choice. But like I said before I want to go fast in a straight line. The vette will be expensive to go from a stop. Tranny, rear end, suspension= much more expensive than f-body. Plus the ss only weighs 100lbs more.
