Default Oil Temp.

Oil temp. this morning didn't change from "Low" through out my commute to work this morning. Normally I would hit 140 in about 10 mins. of "nice and easy, warm-up" driving in comparable weather. My commute is a good 15/20 mins. but outside temp. was 15 with wind chill in the low single digits. Is this normal? Thanks.

Sounds completely normal to me. Just plain too cold. Be careful and go easy with her until the pressure drops and temp rises though.

My car does the same thing when I start it in very cold weather. I did some searching and found a mention of it being a bug in the software. When the oil is cold enough to trigger the "low" message instead of an actual numeric reading, it will not switch back to the numeric display until you turn the car off and back on again. I find it irritating since I use the oil temp to judge when the motor is warmed up. I decided to ignore it since we only have about one month of really cold weather here in VA.

You may want to try resetting the car while driving. If you turn the key back to the 'start' position while driving, it will reset the computer (and won't engage the starter). I have done it when getting a weird code before, it may be worth trying it with the oil temp as well.

I'd agree with the others. Pretty nhormal. I love the temp feature on the DIC. I keep my foot out of it till the oil is around 150 degrees.

just my personal habit.

I was having a problem with oil temps to high on the track so I put in a Ron Davis radiator with a built in oil cooler. On the street the oil and water run 195. At Spring Mountain a couple weeks ago the water got up to 200 and the oil maxed out a 248 instead of the 300 I had before.

To get the oil temp up quicker you will need to drive in a lower gear and bring the revs up a little.

I agree, but I'd say nothing above 3k-ish. When the oil is thick, pressure is higher; when pressure is higher, **** tries to break!

Is there an undocumented "LOW OIL TEMP" message ??

You sure it wasn't saying "LOW OIL LEVEL" ????

If so, you need to pull the dipstick and check that there is enough oil in the engine. You may be a quart low. Remember to use a synthetic like Mobil1. If in a pinch, you can use regular dinosaur oil.
