Default Help wake up the engine!!

hey guys Im looking to wake up my engine for my 99 a4 coupe 82k miles on it. It is a Daily Driver, looking to wake up the engine.

car has few things done to it. Z06 mufflers, no cats, x pipe.

What would be the best modifcation for me (suggestions are welcome!)
Im looking to spend right around a grand or so.

I was thinking about 3000 stall converter and having a set of 3.42 gears put into current diff. (Currently have 3.15 performance ratio) not sure if heavy duty output shaft is needed.

or

ls6 intake manifold and vararam intake. or is an ls2 intake manifold set up better?

and tune if needed..

thanks guys.

Are you going to be doing the labor yourself? you won't get a stall and gears for anywhere near a 1000 bucks. Go for a set of long tubes, or maybe a cam, although after labor and tuning it'll be more than a grand.

Personally i'd just hold off and put a blower on it and be done with it. Great gas mileage, and reliability, and even better power!

$1000 won't buy you much, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Get the gears - best bang for the buck short of N2O

with that budget you better do the install yourself. long tubes or a cam would be a good bang for the buck

planning on doing install myself, minus gears. I have access to lift and sister's boyfriend is a mechanic..

What is the cost of gears/stall generally run?

EG are you set up to do tunes yet?

Im thinking ls6/ls2 manifold and vararam would be best for me at the time.

question is which manifold would be best?

With your current list of mods you won't notice much if any of a difference. between either of those or stock.

No 'need' for headers, with cam only you will make more HP than the headers would. Steve at Ct proved that.

I think a rough estimate is about 800 to 1000 in parts, plus a 500 dollar tune or so. That's doing it all yourself.

There's a lot of great cams available. The list of parts isn't too bad.
The cam,
Springs
Retainers
Pushrods
Gasket set.
