I have been researching some of the short throw shifters that have been on the market for a while and am trying to make a decision. After reading a few threads it seamed that the hurst and the MTI 6-shooter seem to be the most liked. I want somthing thats not going to rattle and always give a nice smoothe shift. The more input the better. Thanks fellas, and ladies
I love my Hurst. There is a thread about putting a plastic pipe end over the shifter, under the boot to eliminate vibration. I've also heard about half of a tennis ball. I used the plastic end. No vibration.
I have the Hurst and like it, But I heard so much about the MTI SS that I had to check out their website. After doing so - I have decided to get one very very soon. My Hurst is cool, but notchy and takes some effort to shift - as someone else commented some time ago - the Hurst reminds them and me of the precision of a rifle bolt, very tight, crisp. If one is to believe the MTI site the Six Shooter appears to be easier and smoother and not so notchy - I am expecting the SS will be easier to shift due to less tension from the centering springs and not as "notchy" as the Hurst. Their site is convincing, at least to me. My .02 anyway.
I am using the MTI right now. Went from stock to C6, then Hurst and now have the Six Shooter. It is the best of both worlds. True short shifter (like the difference) and easy to shift like stock. No vibration or noise after I switched the C6 **** for a Hurst Ball. I can recommend the MTI with no reservations at all. Love it.
depends on your driving. I think street and road racing the C6 Z06 shifter is best. For drag racing or a person that loves to slam the gears then the Hurst.
Hurst hands down. just have to remove the stop bolts and wrap alot of teflon tape on the **** threads to make it quiet. then you can bang the gears hard all day long!
Installed it several years ago, and would never go back. (I did have to move to the lighter returns springs though, so my wife could still drive the car.)
I'd definitely appreciate hearing more from folks who have tried the C6Z06 shifter and also the MTI SS. I come from import cars, so the stock C5Z shifter is pretty long and balky by my standards...and I want to make a good decision (which at this point had been the C6Z shifter).
I cut the stock shifter and I love it. It doesn't have the the notchy feel of some of the short throws...
I cut down my stock shifter and retapped it (9/16"-18) along with a drilled/tap billiard cue ball(solid, heavy feel) and made my shifter for about $15. I do hear alot of good reviews on the MTI, and I think the Hurst is a little to notchy for me!

After trying several, I've fallin in love with my Kirban. Perfectly smooth and super short shifts. No noise or vibration what so ever. I would recommend the Kirban to everyone.
I have some pics of the install if anyone wants to see them.
I love my Hurst, i havent had it long but I really like it a lot. I performed the anti-venom mod when I installed the hurst so that took a lot of the notchiness out of the shifts. The Hurst has very short, precise shifts.
Bro, if you look on the for sale forum there are lot of different shifters offered up. People try one brand of shifter and don't like it, so they try another, don't be afraid to try a few, especially if you buy them used. They are not hard to change out. Keep trying until you find one you like.
