I'm getting my first ever C5 in a couple of days and would like to know what priorites might be placed upon things like performance chip? K&N filter? etc. Thanks
Congrats on getting a C5. Most guys on here seem to add an aftermarket intake system (Vararam, Blackwing, Callaway), exhaust (Borla, B&B, Corsa), headers (BBK, TPIS) to start off with. Theres plenty of other things you can do depending on how far you want to go. I started out just looking around on the forum, and shopping on Ecklers.com and CorvetteCentral.com, they're two very good sites. Just check the forum now and then and you'll learn quickly.

I think that many people will back me when I say get a catback that you like the sound of and supercharger and quit right there. Congrats on the new ride!!!! Then spend your money on brakes, tires, sway bars and shocks.

If I wasnt going for the old school muscle sound of heads and cam I would have done just that.
i really thinks that you will have the most fun with exhasut. if you plan on adding headers and x pipe later on make sure you keep in mind how loud it will be after the headers and x pipe. digitalcorvettes have alot of engine noise videos with all different types exhausts. congrats on the new car, have fun, and get a valentine one

MIke, congrats on your on your soon to be new C5. Depending on your mod budget, here is what would get you started. First the car has to breath.
Get a cold air intake such as Vararam, Honker, Vortex etc. Then headers, long tube, like LG, Dynamaxx, Kooks, etc. with high flow cats and X pipe, also a good cat back muffler system, take your pick Corsa, B&B, Z06ti, etc. and then a good tune. Join your local Corvette club and start to network to see what others have done to theirs. Also this forum has many threads of performance mods. Your wallet and imagination will determine how far you go, but beware, once you start your first mod, you will be addicted.

I got my throttle body ported on my Camaro..and that was a real seat of the pants difference. I dont have any numbers on actual hp increase , if any , but you could tell the engine was breathing easier.
But...if your going faster..your gonna need to handle that speed in the corners.
Sway bars were by biggest seat of the pants suspension change..unfortunately sway bars for Corvettes seem to be really inflated..I payed 300 and change from Strano Performance for my front and rear with endlinks
The C5 has outstanding performance stock, out-of-the-box.
The first mod I would make? A competent high-performance driving school so you can safely get all the performance out of the car. If high-performance is your interest (on a track I hope) first improve your driving habits and patterns, then worry about the car.
I'm getting a '99 with 25K miles and wanting to do mild performance upgrades without going crazy on the mods or chasing after alot of expensive horsepower. I can already scare myself with a stock Vette, so I'm really only wanting inexpensive hp and a great sound. Thanks everyone.

Sounds like a GREAT car. When you say you can sare yourself with a stock Vette, you show yourself to be a very honest guy. Cool. Once you get the goodies on, do consider a good high-performance driving school. You will learn the performance envelope on the car and how you can smoothly use all the HP the car has. Smooth = Safe.
A couple guys have now mentioned the driving school route.
I think that would be a great idea. Not to mention a ton of fun.
Any suggestions?
I saw one advertised in GA that uses Corvettes.
Anyone attended?
