Default Wheel Lock Key

Can someone post a pic showing where the wheel lock key is? I looked in the trunk where the manual says it should be (see below) but I don't see anything. I have had this car since September and I keep forgetting to look for the key.

-2002 A4 Roadster-

Page 6-52
If you have a coupe or a convertible, the wheel lock key
sits in a small depression in the trunk rail directly under
the left rear compartment cover.

Your vehicle’s wheel lock key has a unique registration
number. The registration number is printed on a card
included in your lock nut package. Also on this card is
lost key replacement information. This number is not
recorded by GM or your dealer, so be sure not to lose
this card. You will need the information if you ever lose
your wheel lock key.

If you or someone else is going to remove the wheels on
your vehicle, make sure that the special wheel lock key
is being used to remove the wheel locks.

It's hidden - you have to pick up the carpet and reach underneath to get at the indendation that holds the key. It sits on the high spot between the center and side compartment on the drivers side - took me a while to find it too...

The key goes here. I didn't install the locking lug nuts so I don't carry the key. If it's not there, maybe the previous owner forgot to give it to you.

Default wheel lock

A "Corvette Specialist" AKA MORON stripped my OEM wheel lock when changing a tire. Told him NOT TO USE THE AIR TOOL but he was a SPECIALIST. Was at NTB. It took a lot of looking to find the OLD STYLE wheel locks for my '98. Finally found one at a dealership about 30 miles away. They paid list price plus for MY TROUBLE. Treat em like gold. BIGHANK

You might want to find it or get one before you are I have seen a garage destroy a good set of wheels trying to get off the locking lug nuts...

Did you check the glove box? That is where my previous car's owner stored it.

If it is not in the location shown above, try the other compartments, the glove box, or the center console. If you still can't find it, hopefully you got a piece of paper when you bought the car that has the key number on it. You can order replacement keys, but you need that number.

I kept mine in the document pouch rather than in the indentation.

Wheel locks came standard on the 2001-2002 Z06. They were made a dealer installed option after that. Other years I have no information on.

When I sold my 2001 white vert with magnisium wheels, I called the guy to tell him I had the lock key and it's put it under the welcome mat so he could pick it up. That was in July. Why wouldn't someone pick it up? I still have it.

When I bought my MY vert, it was in the glove box.

You'll have to remove the plastic caps on your lug nuts to determine whether you have the locking lug nuts or not.
Here's a pic that shows the locking lug nuts and the key.

Thanks for the help! Now I know where to look. I will take the plastic covers off and see if I have the locking nuts. I hope not.

Just in case...what happens if I have the locking nuts and no key?
