Default Shifter question

Who makes the best shifter for the Z06 and is there one out there that is a significantly shorter throw than the stock shifter?

"The best" is a matter of opinion. Ask 10 people and you may get 10 different answers. I have a Hurst Billet short shift kit in my Z and like it very much. However, I have only the stock shifter to compare to and didn't like that at all. You don't want to shorten the shifter too much or it will become too hard to shift. Incidentally, the shift **** you choose will make a big difference in the way any shifter performs. I like a heavier **** since the short shift kit is a bit notchy. The heavier **** helps to create a positive feel when going into gear. I bought an after market **** but didn't really like the way it fit my hand, so I made my own (actually I made three, each slightly different). I used a piece of clay the size of the **** I wanted. I molded it until it fit my hand comfortably and used that for a pattern. Then I turned down a piece of 2" diameter aluminum to match that shape, drilled and tapped it to fit the 9/16 diameter, 18 thread shifter and am currently having it anodized black. I don't have any pics yet but I'll try to get some posted when they're done. Hope this helps.

I did some research & decided on the B&M 45044. The install went smooth & the shifter is fantastic. I have had zero problems with vibration, noise, or heat. The B7M 45044 is an outstanding shifter with a much crisper feel than the stock shifter.

Same shifter I just put in yesterday. Went in in like 30 minutes, and is much better feel than the stock shifter! So far so good!

I ended up with the MTI 6-shooter and anti-venom mod. Had the B&M prior to that but had rattle issues...

I have the B&M Ripper and a c6 **** installed in my z and really enjoy the set up. I can't comment on the other shifters as the B&M is the only one I have tried out of the bunch.

My oem shifter still suits me fine so far. I shortened it only 3/4" and added a HURST 2.25" black ****. It might get sloppy with more miles on it (4,500).

diceman9, does the sheep in your avatar have a name?

Hurst here for a few years and love it. Like above, changed ***** a few times and went back to an OEM dual colored one from WCC (I think, been a while...). Love it even with the middle springs. If you go with one with adjustable locks (don't need one in an m6/m12 as the trany has stops) make sure yuo lock tight them in. Lots of folks here had them back out with use and keep the car out of a gear or 2. Good luck!

I love it. Not too notchy, but a shorter throw. Looks OEM--but much better than the look of the C5Z shifter.

I've got a Callaway shifter, when I bought the car it had a first gen B&M Ripper and it was way too stiff for my liking. The Callaway shifter is just the right balance of stiff and short throw.

I went with a C6Z shifter from Fred Beans. I love the way it feels in my hand, the OEM look and its less notchy than the stock C5Z shifter. Anyone want to buy a stock C5 shifter???

I have a hurst in my z16. I had the stock shift **** theaded as far as it could go, it looked great and the throw was very short but a little notchy. i have added a momo ,it sits a little taller than i like..look wise ,but the extra leverage makes the car shift flawless and smooth.
