Default More questions on headers.

I keep talking myself in and out of buying headers, but I just need a little more info on them before I buy them. I'm deciding between the LG Streets or the American Racing headers, but Im leaning towards the LGs. Is one an easier install than the other, and would either bolt up easily to a set of B&B Bullets? And Ive seen that you can get either an X-pipe with or without a cat, is the X-pipe needed, and if so, does not having a cat cause any problems? Emissions testing probably wouldnt be a concern because last year I got a waver and probably will next year as well. Finally, we're you guys that have them overall satisfied with them in general?

Thanks a lot,
Robert

Ok well, I won't comment on which is easy to install because of the fact that I don't have Headers yet, but I have "heard" that both the headers you mentioned fit very well.

You will need the X pipe that comes with the headers because of the fact that it is meant to bolt up to the LT's as opposed to regular manifolds, it is a different length. Either will bolt up to ANY catback, the catback never posses the problem, so you are clear there.

Not having cats does cause a problem. It will alert the CEL light because it will not recognize the sensors, which the cats provide. Many members are running no cats, because they either have no emission testings or they have a tuner to turn off the CEL, and they like the LOUDer sound of course If you get no cats and have emissions, you will need a tuner, if you don't have emissions, you're in the clear. If you stick with cats, you won't have any of these problems, lol.

NO cats, will make the exhaust SIGNIFICANTLY louder....

Hopes this helps!

Well you don't exactly need a tuner to turn off the code. You can buy false o2 sensors that hook up to the existing wires to trick the car into thinking that theres actualy o2 sensors.

I honestly prefer no cats and from my experience I've seen more horse power gain running no cats. Not a drastic amount. But every horse power counts

I'm sorry but exhaust systems sound so much better without cats! It's all prefrence though.

True, but I had the fake 02 sensors for my mustang, and they are not very reliable at all. Had to get a tuner for the offroad pipe on the mustang.

I like the sound of the offroad pipes, it is just that with many of the straight thru designs that are very popular today, the offroad pipe takes the exhaust note to a WHOLE other level, (like on the mustang we have) which is something I do not want on the Vette. Just wayyy too loud.

With the right type of catback, I am sure that the offroad pipes sound real good with certain types of catbacks though.

But with his Bullets, the offroad pipe is going to take the exhaust to a level that some people are uncomfortable with... However, some love it, it's completley up to you...

Thanks a lot for the help, that answered just about every question I had. Now I just have to decide on whether or not to run it with cats.

Thanks again.

I left my stock cats in and had an exhaust shop make them removable. When I find another set of used cats I'm going to gut them and have the exhaust shop make the exact same piece I have. Then I will know exactly how the sound, smell, engine codes, power (if any) are on my car.

I have the LG street system with cats, and deleted rear O2's. They were easy to install. I have stock mufflers with the A&A bypass mod and they are now really loud. I was almost shocked at first, but now im used to it. With cats they dont smell bad.

The rear 02 sims work well or you're tuner can edit them out. Unless you're state requires a sniffer test emisions shouldn't be a problem.

From my experience, depending on what engine mods you may have cats will cost about 5-6 rwhp

They will also quiet the exhaust a bit and prevent the fuel odor in the exhaust (personally I kinda like it). Also you may get some exhaust deposits on the rear facia w/o the cats.

Oh, the LTs will also make you're Bullets VERY LOUD.

The 02 sims will get hot and have to be replaced (not cheap-about $100 per set) After two sets I had mine tuned and don't have to deal with anymore. There is quite a lot of build up from the exhaust but It is worth the extra cleaning.

I'm in a horsepower war with a friend of mine, so those cats are coming off. Thanks again for the great info.

I decided to get the LG's after I saw this pic of them next to the AR's. The difference in the length of the primaries is pretty big.
