Do an internet search under "ALSA CORP"...they have perfected a process of a chrome "paint" that is as close to chrome as you'll ever get to real chrome. The product can literally be applied to anything, even flexible surfaces. It's not cheap, but if it's chrome you want...

Nothing comes close to chrome but the real thing. I tried duplicolor and krylon's chrome. Krylon's chrome looked like polished aluminum at best. Dupliclor was worse. If you clearcoat afterwords, whatever shine there is goes away and turns silver.
I thought Id bring back an old thread here, to show what Alsa Corp paint will look like. I agree its not chrome, but for certain things it will look pretty good. There are time's when we'd like to save some money from chroming and still have an item look like it is. Also some things cant be chromed unless there completly torn apart. Like an Engine block or Transmission. Heres a short video of my scatter shield being painted. The Engine and Transmission will be next.

That looked pretty good in the vid. Looks like an alternative for some things that wouldn't get ANY abuse. I wonder how it would look on a fluid reserviour (sp)?
It probably would look great. Its the preparation though, thats the hardest part. When it comes to abuse, I think that anything that you would normally paint, would hold up just fine.
