How do you figure out what size is a AN fitting is.I know it has a number,But what does that number mean.I've been messing with cars & motorcycles for year's and never knew what the number's mean.Example, -03 AN or -08 AN or -12 AN...........Paul
The number is the equivilent of 16th of an inch, ie 04 would be 4/16th or a 1/4" i.d., 08 would be 8/16th or 1/2" i.d. and so on. Be aware though that AN and JIC fittings have a different sealing taper angle, and should not be mixed.

Cool The reason I ask is I want to update trans lines going to my cooler.Thank's again................Paul
JIC and AN fittings both use a 37* flare, and same thread size, and ARE compatible.
JIC fittings are most common on high pressure hydraulic hose/tube fittings in the industrial world....where AN is mostly automotive/aircraft/military.
There are also 45* flare fittings which are old, but still common in the industrial world. These are NOT compatible with AN or JIC fittings. Flare angle and threads are different.

I was just looking through a Jeg's catolog and it said for a fitting I was looking at "They easily connect to standard 37* AN style adapter fitting's" No clue what that meant,But now I do.Learn something new every day.
