Default Grinding gears...
At a stop I would putting the car into first gear to move from a stop sign. Appearently I didn't have the shifter all the way into first so when I let off the clutch and I hear some grinding and vibration in the shifter. I pulled the shifter back into neutral to make it stop.

Which parts are actually grinding? And how much damage did I put on the tranny?

Common issue.. Just shift to 2nd before placeing it in first. Let the gears sync up. You will feel it go into gear better.

Yes that's what I hear..... but how much damage did I induce because of that?

I'm sure there is some wear. You don't want to do this all the time..

you will get into the habit of second before first...

I'm sure there is some wear too... but i'm not sure how significant it is.... now i'm a little worried.
