Default Val 1 Mounting Options-Mirror or Visor

I am planning on replacing my suction cup/power cord windshield mounting for my Valentine 1 radar detector. I will be going to the invisicord for power to my mirror, but what do you recommend for a mounting location?

I am considering the vettemods.com passenger visor mount, but I am concerned about losing some detection, having it mounted behind the black portion of the windshield, and being further away from the driver.
Yes, it's a much more stealth location vs. the mirror mount.

The issue I have with the vettequest mirror mount is that you must super glue a part into the mirror housing in order to have this set up work, and curious as to what this set up looks like with the detector removed.

So if you have installed either of these mounts please chime in as to the pros/cons you have found with using these mounts.

I've got my V1 mounted to my mirror using the Great Lakes bracket. It was easy enough to epoxy to the mirror mount and has held strong since last summer. I'm using the invisicord for power. IMO this combo works great and doesn't cost much

My V1 is installed above my rearview mirror, very hard to see it from outside the car. I power it from the mirror using on of these.

I've mounted my V1 using both mounts. I started with the under mirror mount. Instead of epoxy, I used silicon and a nylon wire tie. This installation is rock solid, but it blocks the map reading lights. I've since changed to the passenger sunvisor mount. Unfortunately, this installation is very flexible. It's as if my V1 was on the end of a spring board. I cured this by fabricating a "C" channel brace and attaching it using velcro. Now the installation is solid. If you go with the sunvisor mount, you'll need the 4" invisicord. As far as performance of the V1, I couldn't tell any difference between either location.

Zipity,
I think you would be very happy with our mount. It actually is designed to place the detector just below the tint line. It is very sturdy, and as you noted provides a less visible mounting location when looking in from outside the vehicle.

Thanks,
Rick

I put the VetteMods visor mount on last spring... awesome! Well made, looks OEM, detector very difficult to see from outside the vehicle and absolutely no issues with detector performance. My detector is the Escort 8500.

I don't like, the mirror mounts, the detector is too conspicuous in my opinion.

You wouldn't happen to have a picture or a description of the brace you made up? I've got the same mount and the same "springboard" effect. Right now I've got a bunch of ugly pieces of packing foam wedged in there but a permanent solution would be helpful. Thanks!

I had the same issue (bouncy V-1) If you look at the size difference in the suction cup mount you will see it is about half as wide as the visor mount.
So I just cut the plastic visor mount adapter to the V-1 down to the size of the (suction cup mount) so the V-1 now sits closer to the windshield and the weight is centered under the mount. No more bounce. This is if you are using the visor mount for the on the V-1 for the Vettemods mount.

Half as "wide", or do you mean front to back? If I cut down the V1 suction cup mount bracket to half size front to back, then the unit will ride further forward and reduce the springboard effect. That seems to be what you're saying but I wasn't quite clear. Thanks.

I like the visor, because the detector can't be easily seen from outside the car. The mirror mount makes it visible, and too much an attractant to thieves.

yes..This will move the V1 under the center of the mount and the front of the V1 even with the mirror. You will also see a small locking notch on the side of the plastic mount file a new notch after you cut it down.

I am using the mirror mount but have seen the springboard effect.

Planing on adding a metal brace between the visor mounting tab and the front of the plastic V1 mount that attach's to the visor mount. I know this sounds confusion - Picture a piece of metal "z" shaped 1/2" wide by 1" tall, painted black, attach with 3M double sided tape or Velcro.

Invisi cord and visor mount are still the best plan in my opionion.

Doesn't the V1 come with a direct hardwire kit that you can splice into the mirror yourself, without buying the Invisicord?
